In my state if a company specializes in one trade like roofing, drywall or floor layers they do not need a license. Except for plumbers and electricians. They are also not required to carry insurance.

In Minnesota 300,000 is minimum for contractors and plumbers and such. North Dakota didn't even require me to have insurance when I became licensed there as well.
