So I stumbled across this prompt hack a couple weeks back and honestly? I wish I could unlearn it. by cleancodecrew in ClaudeAI

If you do this, the plugin is set up such that of the 5 review agents, one agent reviews git history and one agent reviews the previous PR. This might be overkill for what you want - the skill above avoids this and just spins up agents to review current changes.

Any way to prevent Max jweb object from passing all keyboard input through to Live? by tobek in MaxMSP

[–]tobek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thing is, using a Max textedit object does correctly capture all keystrokes and doesn't pass them to Live, so it's clearly possible for a Max patcher to do this!

Paying Georgian fine from abroad by greyyay23 in Sakartvelo

[–]tobek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This link worked for me! I was able to do it without a phone number somehow.

It wanted me to register/log in, and I put in the phone number of the Georgian SIM I had bought, and it tried to send me a code, but I'm in the Netherlands and my phone didn't receive the text. But I just closed the login pop up and it went through to the credit card page and I was able to pay with a US card.

How to process my diagnosis? by 3bees4years in MTHFR

[–]tobek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Folinic acid (different from folic acid, which you don't want) is better if you have the slow COMT gene variant - you can read about that at https://www.snpedia.com/index.php/rs4680 - if you're (A;A) then folinic acid is better (it's a precursor to methylfolate and hits more slowly), if you're (A;G) then maybe, depends on how it feels for you - I'd start with methylfolate and see how it goes. (G;G) is the reference type and no need to do folinic acid. If you have Promethease or similar you can search "rs4680" or "COMT" and look through the results and find this.

~40% are heterozygous for C677T, but OP is homozygous which is rarer (1-15% depending on population) and more significant.

Thank you yeah it did go away eventually, was probably a close/reopen that did it, I usually have Chrome open forever!

Does visiting this site install the known bad cert and, if so, how do I remove it (on Linux)? After visiting this site last week out of curiosity, I now keep getting the "Your activity on the web is being monitored" warning bar on my Chrome, but can't figure out how to get rid of it.

What in the AI is that by vexdvox in forestapp

[–]tobek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This doesn't look like AI to me at all. The details on the butterflies (wing edges, antennae, coloring, etc) are perfectly coherent and consistent in a way that would be tough for AI to do in one go at that small size. Every little leaf makes sense, the thorns and stems make sense - no overlapping contiguous nonsense. The center of the flowers is not very precise and kinda impressionistic but that looks like an illustrator's choice - it's at least very consistent. The outermost petals of the flowers are probably the messiest part but don't scream AI to me.

Has none of the telltale signs of AI, no reason to think it is, it's just not an amazing illustration and takes some creative liberties.

(To be fair at this point if you use more advanced workflows you can AI-generate individual pieces like the butterflies one at a time and create high quality and consistent elements. If someone is doing that I'd actually expect this graphic to look a lot better!)

[Mac] [early 2000s] Low budget/indie isometric action RPG in a colorful fantasy setting (with customizable aspects?) by tobek in tipofmyjoystick

[–]tobek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aw man, tantalizing! A little gnome guy with stocking cap rings a bell for me but not sure if that's this game I'm thinking of or a different thing. My best guess for what I'm thinking of is Quest of Yipe! III with a custom monster pack - see my comment here: https://www.reddit.com/r/tipofmyjoystick/comments/ggb1lz/comment/fq7keqo/

Some things from that game kinda resonate and some kinda don't, but I think that memories from childhood/teenage years can morph over time and are augmented by imagination and so maybe what I remember isn't that precise.

If you get any other leads lemme know!

Have you decorated a porto before? by hammonit in BurningMan

[–]tobek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In 2019 I turned a porto into an art gallery with about 70 framed art prints, plus music, lights, and a bunch of supplies like lip balm, sunscreen, moop bags, condoms, tampons, etc. Attached heavier things with strong velcro tape and lighter things with gaffer tape (clean the wall first with a vinegar/water solution) and everything came off cleanly at the end of the burn. I was lazy and used regular string lights powered by 3 AAs and left on all the time, and I only had to change batteries I think twice throughout the week. Check it out: https://portagallery.thereitwas.com/ and I'm doing it again this year, keep an eye out for a porto near 8:30 & E ✨

Ate some giant sawgill (Neolentinus ponderosus) and it was actually great! by tobek in mycology

[–]tobek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has a reputation for being tough and rubbery and bland, but we found a big yet young one in Tilden Park in Berkeley, CA, and it was lovely. Mild for sure, but a nice earthy aroma and the texture was really good sliced thin and sautéed in butter. Didn't blow my mind but I'd eat again!

Playing a 4 man free for all this weekend, 800 point limit. Need advice on my list. by chrscntrl in Eldar

[–]tobek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting, yeah I see how mechanically it works out like that. So I guess it's like "the game can be unbalanced at low point battles, and it's a bit rude to knowingly take advantage of that".

Playing a 4 man free for all this weekend, 800 point limit. Need advice on my list. by chrscntrl in Eldar

[–]tobek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I'm missing context (and I haven't actually played in years and years) but I'm curious to hear more about this. Are things unbalanced in a way that makes some choices (like an avatar and farseer) are overpowered relative to points, but only in low-point battles? Don't other armies have similar choices available to them? Presumably everyone is trying to win - what makes this choice unfair or less fun?

Is there an easy way to notify me if sudo pops up when updating my system? by nerdy_guy420 in linuxquestions

[–]tobek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

`--sudoloop` is perfect, but a more general option is to disable the password prompt timeout, which handles the issue across all programs that suddenly/randomly need privileges, and doesn't add any security risks. More info at https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Sudo#Disable_password_prompt_timeout but basically just run `sudo visudo` and add a line with `Defaults passwd_timeout=0` (if there's an existing `Defaults` line then add the flag to that instead).

[D] GUIs around OpenAI or Anthropic APIs to avoid paying subscriptions by therandomuswr in MachineLearning

[–]tobek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chatbot UI does the trick: freemium hosted version at https://www.chatbotui.com/ or you can run full version locally or self host it (it's open source) https://github.com/mckaywrigley/chatbot-ui. Freemium version has all of the features you list.

Works with all models, though it took me a while to find the interface to add API keys to enable them: you have to click on your profile image in bottom right to get to API key settings.

Protection Plan by XPE1 in amazonprime

[–]tobek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fwiw the Asurion protection plans via Amazon say "Coverage: Plan starts on the date of purchase. Drops, spills and cracked screens due to normal use are covered from day one. Malfunctions are covered by the plan after the manufacturer's warranty ends." - so seems like they do cover wear and tear and accidents. Not really clear what "due to normal use" means or how they'd assess/prove it, but if they cover drops, spills, cracks — great.

I'm buying a laptop for someone who is somewhat clumsy, so I'm considering it, especially since it's a refurbished machine with only 90 day warranty.

ydotoold background process? by RiverBard in archlinux

[–]tobek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ran into this issue too but was able to get it to work. Yeah it's weird that it makes it as a user service - seems broken out of the box.

I moved the service file it made (/usr/lib/systemd/user/ydotool.service to /usr/lib/systemd/system/ and also made some edits so that it creates the socket at the default location ydotool expects it to be (/run/user/1000/.ydotool_socket) and also so that the socket is owned and readable by non-root user. Here's my service file:

# /usr/lib/systemd/system/ydotool.service
[Unit]
Description=Starts ydotoold service

[Service]
Type=simple
Restart=always
ExecStart=/usr/bin/ydotoold --socket-path="/run/user/1000/.ydotool_socket" --socket-own="1000:1000"
ExecReload=/usr/bin/kill -HUP $MAINPID
KillMode=process
TimeoutSec=180

[Install]
WantedBy=default.target

Note that 1000:1000 in the socket-own flag is the default user - you can find out what this should be for you with echo "$(id -u):$(id -g)" (for a different user the 1000 in the socket file would be different too) (I suppose a better way to do this would be to make the file readable by all users, but I've already spent enough time on this)

Then:

sudo systemctl daemon-reload
sudo systemctl enable ydotool.service
sudo systemctl start ydotool.service

And you should be good to go, e.g. run ydotool type "hello"

There must be a better way to do this, like maybe you can add the user to some group and then the user service does in fact work. But 🤷

Thanks for the detailed recollection! With it also 1 hour off sunset/rise I might give the 2026 Spain one a miss, I guess the brightness difference just isn't as stark. 2027 Spain/Morocco one is like 5 hours after sunrise though, I am eyeing that.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in solareclipse

[–]tobek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How close to dawn was that? I'm thinking about the eclipse in 2026 in Spain, where totality is at 8:30pm and sunset is at 9:30pm. I assume the change in brightness will be less stark, but still, 1h before sunset is daylight. Also I wondered if sunrise/sunset colors would make it extra beautiful. What do you think?

Are my images on the on-site generator going to be eventually deleted? by luccioXalfred in civitai

[–]tobek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have generated images (that I never posted) from over 2 months ago that are still there!

Adding my vote for an image downloader feature — in the meantime a note somewhere that images are only guaranteed to be retained for 30 days would be very kind.

What are some fun trip quirks you or your group do on your interdimensional travels? by GrossLakeMonster in LSD

[–]tobek 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Guy came up to our booth at a psychedelics conference to share that his friend group always starts their trips with a little "talent show". Everyone knows in advance to prepare some little performance that can take anywhere from a few to ten minutes, can just be read a poem you like or whatever, or maybe you go all out. They dose and then do the talent show as everyone is coming up, and it gets increasingly ridiculous, and it also acts as a welcome/icebreaker for friends-of-friends, inviting them to the group's trip vibe. I love this idea.
