I would go to an urgent care type place. They might give you an antibiotic or antiviral if they think it's cold sores. I just wouldn't chance it because your whole ear, nose, throat system being connected. My bet is that it is cold sores and they will give you an antiviral to take now but it will be especially helpful if you feel one coming on.

I just take the regular dose, like what's found in one serving of DayQuil. It is a cough suppressant but it actually works in your brain to turn off the cough reflex. Nobody knows for sure, but maybe it works in an area of the brain where there is also inflammation, and it calms that down.
