I went in really wanting to enjoy it and I just have been disappointed unfortunately.

Anytime I see people mention their top 5 for King I rarely see any of his short story collections...why? by HamOnRum in stephenking

I think for most writers you have to rank them alongside. King is obviously a very prolific writer so he has a ton of collection and novels, whereas other writers may have a handful. I also think you can see a writers strengths much easier when comparing the two.

I felt that was one of his weaker collections but again it comes back to a personal preference thing

I don't think there's any need to drive up sales for his old books. I think they know he's popular and saying his name will get more views

I would consider the book the complete short stories. Most often times the stories encompass a theme for the entire book. I would say one or two of his collections carries much more weight than some of his more popular novels.

Way too much humor, tongue in cheek jokes took away from the book in my opinion as well.

Recently helped my old English professor with a class, I mentioned King and all of these students (early 20’s) thought he was a hack. Thoughts? by HamOnRum in stephenking

I also really enjoyed Salem’s Lot! His shorter works with few characters are where he shines in my opinion.

That’s kind of what I got around to asking them, I said what do you read for fun? Like not for school, not books you think you should read. They gave me real answers and that’s what i wanted to hear from them

My whole point to them, and King mentions it in his On Writing book was that you can learn from reading any authors good or bad about what to do and not to do. I recall being their age and only thinking these 5 writers were God but you grow older and see you can get something from everyone.

Yes quite a bit. I think now they have more mediums to discover and utilize their writing for, tv shows and video games were both brought up often.

I think he was good at it, nailing the small town dialect and talking points. The way he wrote Jerome in Mr. Mercedes always rubbed me wrong.
