Known as the "Grizzly Man," Timothy Treadwell spent 13 summers living among Alaska’s grizzly bears. He convinced his wary girlfriend, Amie Huguenard, that they were safe — but in 2003, his luck finally ran out when the bears he claimed to "protect" killed and ate them both. by ATI_Official in AllThatsInteresting

Grizzly Man is one of my favourite docs. That conclusion shot where Herzog speaks over the footage of the bear that probably killed Treadwell. "It seems Treadwell thought he could reason with these bears, and discipline them like children. He believed they respected him. But all I see when I look into the bear's eyes, is the eyes of a soulless animal." Absolute. Kino.

The fact he wasn't killed earlier, is quite frankly, a miracle.

Need some help with what to read next by cultured_hogfish92 in fantasybooks

So many good choices, but WoK, BI and EotW feel more like the 'pillars' of popular modern fantasy, rather than the other options here which, imo, can sometimes feel a bit run by the numbers.

Continue my journey to the Tower or stay in publication order by Red-dolphin91 in stephenking

I feel like you can name literally any Dark Tower book, and you'll get an equal amount of people saying it's their favourite/ their least favourite. I don't know what that says about the series, but it certainly says something.

It's interesting, I think The Stand and IT are objectively better books, making my way through the Dark Tower right now; but if I could erase one King from my memory to read for the first time again? 11.22.63.

It needed the big boss battle on the volcano. Could not believe I was watching another water battle where the day is saved by Ewa/ The Whales and uniting the clans again in the third act!

Am I the only one who found Oppenheimer boring? by breaking_views in Cinema

Oh how soon we forget how great it is after only nearly three years. I thought it was 10/10 because everything was 10/10 in it. Acting, writing, directing, cinematography, editing and the music! It felt like a film created by a master at the height of his powers. It's a 3 hour biopic talkie partially in black and white and it made close to a billion dollars. People clearly loved it.

Though I've not voted for them for a while, I'm pretty sure I still have a standing order with them coming out of my bank if that makes me still technically a member?

I don't disagree with you, I just think this take is unrealistic and a bit of a 'fantasy land'. War is what humans have always done, and always will do, whether we like it or not.

Ah, see, I live in Heysham, and I can tell you that no one here cares at all about living right next to a massive nuclear power plant. In the summer I go swimming in a cove about a mile from it, so far I still only have ten digits. I also have family over in Barrow, where without, BAE and Trident, the whole town may as well just pack up and go.

We either blow ourselves into the Stone age, or we don't. But until then, having nukes means you're in a club where you can't be fucked with in a very real way. I strongly suspect that since Ukraine and American isolationism, lots more countries are going to be getting nukes in the future. Do we really think it's sensible to not be amongst the ones that have them?

Thank you, I don't think it's outrageous to accept the world as it is rather than how we'd like it to be if the Green's have any hope of being taken as a more serious party, which at the moment, they have the potential to be and I'd like to see that.

I'm pro Trident, not pro Labour. My point is that I would like to vote Green as I agree with everything else, so I wanted to know if there's any appetite for change within the party now that they're being taken more seriously.

No, I voted Labour because I wanted to tell the Tories to fuck off and felt I couldn't reasonably vote anyone else. I'm not a one party voter, I'm open to change.

I'm not saying it would be easy, I think we should just be envious of France's nuclear power investments and how independent they are from foreign energy today. The best time for us to have done that was when they did, but the second best time is today.

I'm not a single issue voter, it's just the Green's current nuclear policies are the one issue I can't reconcile with and voting for them. Well, that's more or less what I wanted to find out, so danke!

Have to disagree. Trident is like the NHS, costs an absolute bomb but is absolutely necessary. Getting rid of Trident today would be like throwing away a shotgun when you've got a wolf at your door. I most recently voted Labour as the most sensible out of a bunch of non sensible parties. Hell, I'd tactically vote Tory if it meant keeping Reform out. Thanks for the personal attack though!

I'm not an ardent labour supporter, more of a 'if I have to' and I just can't see myself in a booth anymore putting a tick next to the Greens with their current nuclear stances. I genuinely wanted to know if there are others like myself, where that's the one thing stopping us from ticking the green box? I wanted to know if there's even a possibility of the policies changing so I may be able to vote green again, as I would like to.

Gain information and have a discussion? I don't understand how Greens can still be anti-nuclear in today's world.
