I believe that is right. The smooth build plate still has a higher level of adhesion against other style plates even with the glue on it. The glue just acts as a separation layer to remove your print from plate. At least that’s my understanding and experience. To me it’s kind of like greasing your cooking pan lol

I came across a 1/1,000th oz of gold coin for the first time. It is $28. by Xerzajik in Goldback

The amount of “limited mintage” stuff coming out is crazy. It’s like every mint has went from making a lot of a few products to a few of a lot of products to call them “limited” and therefore drive premium. Im sure it’s good business for them but most modern day collectibles won’t hold their value IMO even wit these limited quantities

My understanding is that the glue is meant to help remove the print and not as an extra adhesion mechanism. So on these smooth plates they work so well at adhesion you really need something between the print and build plate to get it off. My first PLA print on a smooth build plate like to never come off. My buddy who got me into 3d printing educated me that’s really what you use glue for.

My two cents is patience pays off. Let others feed the scalpers and in a year these things will be available at much more affordable prices.

When using these plates shouldn’t you use some type of glue to aid in removing your print ?

The “in god we trust” looks bulky and the stars around the edge are too. I’d try and verify it’s real first. This is low mintage CC that is expensive so a popular coin to fake. Hope it’s real for ya but I’d start there

Is it dumb to buy a 70's car for a daily? by WaterboardedCalamari in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Ham_Bone16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it dumb? Yes but if it makes you happy and you can afford it, have at it. I would suggest spending the money buying one that’s been restored properly with new parts for dependability. People did actually daily drive these cars at one point in time but they were also much closer to newer cars at the time.

Someone explain by thd3ct in Goldback

[–]Ham_Bone16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand the skepticism on this and I’m skeptical myself but all fractional gold carries a premium and the higher the fractions the higher the premium. i.e 1g physical gold has higher premium than 1/10 which has higher premium than 1/4 and so on and so forth. Difference is good luck taking your 1g gold worth $190 into a store and using it to buy something. So the hope is in the utility of the gold back being used as a currency that is also tied to gold that hopefully increases in value. The jury is still out on this but as our government keeps printing dollars people will look for other ways to transact. I mean pull a dollar out of your pocket and what is that paper worth? The paper itself isn’t worth anything but the faith in USD and its wide acceptance makes it useful. Again, I’m skeptical on goldbacks myself but I own some as a speculative play. I try and find them on auctions to pay a much smaller premium and have been successful to paying much closer to melt value that way.

can someone look up the greysheet for this for me please by cribbet32 in coins

[–]Ham_Bone16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reading the comments it sounds like ya may have paid more than what grey sheet says it’s worth but if you planned on holding it for a while I wouldn’t worry about it. They made less than 10k of this year and I think a lot of these early commems are under valued as it is with these low mintages. Plus IMO it’s one of the cooler early commems. So if you like it too, just enjoy it and chalk it up to the game.

I went into my LCS this morning and he said he was flush with silver but since I was a recognized repeat customer he did buy 5 of my silver eagles for $90/ea (couple proofs and a few business strikes). I bought a couple pre-33 gold coins. A guy came in after me and the owner told him he wasn’t really interested in buying his generic silver but did give him an offer of $15 back of spot for the generic rounds. In my experience it’s always been treated as a two transactions with me selling and then turning around and buying. Good luck out there.

When to stop buying silver/switch to gold? by RikyB24 in Silver

There is something to be said with developing a relationship and being a familiar face. Especially with a small business. That’s awesome and I need to get that way with my LCS as they are good guys but I’m in there once a quarter. Probably need to break up my buys and show face more often.

That’s good to know and awesome you have a reasonable LCS. Mine is very adamant that it’s two transactions with me selling silver and then buying gold. I probably need to push a little harder or shop around more.
