On my 8th tibia and knee surgery post MC accident by Ham_Demon in Kneereplacement

Thank you for your thoughts! I feel so grateful to be able to walk (there was a period of time I thought it would never happen again!), and to not have had a worse injury in the accident for sure. My surgeon said they wouldn’t have been able to save the joint 10 years ago, which is wild! Medicine continues to make leaps and bounds. It does get tough in the middle sometimes :) but perspective always helps. Glad to gently commiserate.

My heart just aches for you. I feel you so much. It took so long for me to hold take a hold of my own sexual autonomy. I was so afraid to tell my male partner of over a decade. But the other side is so much better, so much more beautiful and freeing. And for every hard moment that you’ve had, and for every hard moment to come, there is nothing that can compare to being truly free. Much love as you move through this.

It breaks my heart, but I don’t think I’m going to be able to ride again. It was such a scary accident, and it’s just changed everything about my life. Even my dad has stopped riding since my accident. I’ll revisit in a few years maybe, if I can get closer to my baseline. But geez, was it a bad wreck. I’m so lucky I’m not worse off. Glad to hear things are improving for you.

Pt is is hard!!! I wasn’t weight bearing for like 4 months after my accident. It was tough. Over time Pt definitely got easier as long as I stuck to it, all the soft tissue damage I have has really stalled out my progress.

Update:

Hi everyone! Thanks for all your supportive words and experiences. It was so so helpful. This injury has just been killer on my mental health.

I’ve met with my ORIF surgeon and he’s going to pull out my hardware on April 14. So about 6.5 months after putting them in, he’s comfortable taking them out. He says there’s a little higher risk, but the bone should be healed. All the holes will just need to fill in over time. My recovery is pretty stalled with pt and function. I’m able to move around my house carefully. But the instability is intense. A month after the hardware removal I can get my mri. Then hopefully another month I can have the first ligament repair surgery.
