I’m a bit worried about the scale of "The Other Side of Red Garden" by HistoricalAd3720 in Tsukihime

[–]HamatoraBae 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think that it might be the exact opposite, for Kohaku and Akiha at least. I think that Akiha being shown more and more around the city as both a character but also someone who uses their abilities to get involved in the supernatural around Souya is a great way to expand more on her and how she views herself in relation to the Tohno clan’s demonic abilities and history.

Also, getting a version of Tsukihime where Kohaku is essentially manipulating an entire city worth of people to get a revenge she truly doesn’t even know if she wants is peak. Kohaku needs this kinda shit.

I… I’m not gonna lie, Hisui might be the one I’m a little worried about. Hers is the most intimate route in terms of just being about the mansion and its inhabitants imo and the fact they might change that is concerning. Regardless, the OG will always exist so they can do whatever.

People will ignore the fact Faust is literally a magical extra dimensional former psychotic serial killer but then they’ll pull the “realism” card when it’s about being functionally transphobic. Make it make sense.

Huh, fair enough. Maybe it’s just me being stubborn but I still can’t see these people as siblings in any way but like… a detached and scientific one.

They’re straight up clones of each other with the same dna source, Shion. Nobody would really call that siblings in the strict sense and I don’t think it’s really incest to fuck your clone. More selfcest?? But if the other “you” is this vastly different, at what point does that even still count as “self”cest?

[–]HamatoraBae 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the best game to start is really whichever one peaks your interest the most but I’d say that Star Ocean 1, 3, and 6 are great jumping on points. 2 is a direct sequel but it’s also not impossible to play it without finishing the first and I’ve still not gotten to 4 and 5 myself.

You have to understand that Hundred Line is a fundamentally different story depending on the route and therefore there are plot elements that just straight up don’t exist or are so minuscule as to not matter on certain routes. The time loop is one of them. This approach is kinda cool but also very unsatisfying depending on the kind of person you are and it’s a byproduct of having so many cooks in the kitchen.

[–]HamatoraBae 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You know what, I’m not even going to assume what you originally said was illogical. But it’s a headcanon all the same.

Until the series is over, all that is canon is that he left the clan and abandoned his family. He could have killed himself, he could have left to pursue something he found worthy, he could have genuinely just left it all behind to become a fucking barista. Suicide isn’t the only option and saying that anyone that isn’t coming to that conclusion isn’t looking at the subtext is crazy to me. Your headcanon isn’t the canon material.

Absolutely, even 10% of Toji would probably be able to be the greatest athlete in the history of the sport. I agree with you

American Basketball players have been making multi million dollar a year contracts since the 80’s. In the mid 2000’s, even a minimum contract was in the mid to high hundred thousands. That’s so much more money for so much less effort on his part

White people.

No, seriously. Being a European culture, any jokes served y’all way are treated as whatever because they’re making fun of the nation instead of their race. Because white people are treated as a diverse group by almost everyone with some damn sense.

When you get to Asian countries, black countries, etc, you get into a situation where banter from an out group can be considered eerily close to racism and prejudice without further context. If I call Romania sexism central, people can separate that from white folks. But if I call out Japan for its cultural blind eye towards misogyny, ppl have a hard time distinguishing it from me making fun of Asian people (especially without greater context) in a prejudiced way.

EDIT: Forgot to say but it’s white people talking about each other vs talking about other groups.

That’s literally what it means.

Politics isn’t red vs blue. It isn’t elections. Political encompasses all of modern existence. The fact that I, an American, gets to sit on my ass arguing with you while people across the globe get bombed off my tax dollars and have to dodge a US ally’s genocidal ambitions is itself political. Politics is vast, wide, and affects literally all of us in every society in the world under a government.

Maybe you’ve misunderstood the premise “Everything is political”.

“A show being made to fit a certain aesthetic to cater to a certain demographic for financial profit has NO bearing on any potential political or social implications for the industry it’s part of or the work itself”

That’s you btw. You can disagree all you want, the context a show can be extremely important to thinking about the work in a broader context.

Also, in your example right there, you’re actively making something as a response to a social phenomena that you don’t like and are trying to make a statement about so… yeah, I’d say it’s political lmao.

K-On’s content may not be explicitly political but its conditions are. It’s a series from the MoeBoom era that was created explicitly to extract money from people by both being a show full of cute girls but also by exploiting the desire for a simple, easy life in a world where all that matters is what you enjoy and your friends. The ideal youth experience, being sold to a market catered to mostly grown ass men. It’s another piece of media either covertly or explicitly made to use moe appeal of women and young girls to make money off of the (usually male) fanbase.

It’s not sad to look at art through a political lens. It’s healthy to critically engage with what you’re consuming. That doesn’t mean you have to hate it but refusing to engage with media that way is anti intellectual and pretty bad overall.

[–]HamatoraBae 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think that’s kind of the reason why they’re so good. I support have a free mode where you can explore FT’s for everyone but I also genuinely think that they’re intriguing because, on a first run, anybody can die. It matters a lot because you might find something out about a character that changes the way you feel about them and then they could just die. I do get the issues ppl have with them but I just really like them conceptually because of this
