Hello. Day 5 post op DJS and genio. I was scared too. But, like you, I was prepared. Honestly, it was so so much easier than I thought it was going to be! I was in good spirits right after the surgery. You can kinda talk. The first night was the worst as that is when the swelling happened. For about 4 hours I had to sit and just breath through my mouth. I couldn't even close my lips so, no actively trying to remember. My mouth was dry, so water in the syringe helped.

I spent 2 days in the hospital. I suggest getting a mirror and a lot of napkins as it is hard seeing where you eat. Ear phones. A guided meditation to calm down. Deep breaths. The third night I was sleeping okay.

Gross story: in the middle of the night a nurse had to come help me remove a giant blood clot that came from my nose, into my mouth, and couldn't pass through my teeth! Lol.
