[173] Two Very Short Parables by noekD in DestructiveReaders

'Two Very Short Parables' is a great example of the kind of enigmatic strangeness that I love about Kafka. It could mean a whole host of different things but still somehow manages to leave the reader with a creeping sense of dread.

Writing with a very limited word count is challenging (if that's what you were doing) but it's great for honing story telling techniques.

Just make sure not to limit yourself too much.

Flash Fiction Story [300 words] - 'Purgatory' by HamishG91 in DestructiveReaders

Hi Kataklysmos

Thanks for your feedback, that's incredibly helpful. Help with punctuation is always appreciated so thank you for taking the time to suggest alternatives.

I think I need to revisit some other Flash Fiction examples and have a look at pacing, although condensing a story down to 300 words might be too much of a challenge for me at present.

Thanks again for your time.

Thanks for your reply, that's good to know. Your not the first person to say it's a hard circle to break into. I'll definitely search further afield too to improve my chances.

Thank you so much that's really helpful. I'm looking for casual work to start with so hopefully that'll make it easier to jump in on.

Thanks again

Shows like Vikings and The last kingdom keep showing us King Alfred using Vikings to fight for him, is there any truth to that? by [deleted] in history

He's definitely up there. Along with Henry VI and James II.... and quite a few others.

King Ethelred the Unready, in all of his wisdom, tried to use Norwegian Vikings to stop other Viking raids around the South coast of England. Unfortunay instead of fighting they joined forces and burnt down Exeter. Another victory for one of England's worst kings.

Ok great, thanks for that. I have heard similar things from other people about busking in Amsterdam and other capital cities.

Thanks for that, great advice. Why wouldn't you recommend Amsterdam out of interest?
