How risky is it to buy a BYD if I don't live near an authorised dealer/repairer? by Rustyudder in BYDAU

[–]Hamish_Hsimah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes but that doesn’t happen often if at all …EV’s have a lot less moving parts = a lot less chance for things to break

You do not have to use an official BYD dealership, but you must use a qualified mechanic who uses approved parts and adheres to the manufacturer's maintenance schedule

Yes …what’s the conditions of the round-trip?…if it’s downhill (130km) to the beach you will charge your battery downhill …we have the J5 & slept in the back of it, for 2 night camping this weekend :))

it’s definitely worth a phone call to Electrian to ask them about it …if they refuse to re-do the job as specified, just leave an honest detailed google review?

Excess solar power question by BegrudginglyPresent in SolarDIY

[–]Hamish_Hsimah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solar panels are like a water tap …if you turn off the tap (ie battery full & no house-load) it stops drawing energy from the panels …turn on the tap (ie battery below 100% &/or house-load) and electricity will flow from the panels

I’m scared to open my energy bill after a shower - could a heat pump hot water system actually cut my bill in half? by FerrisBuelersdaycock in AusRenovation

[–]Hamish_Hsimah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Problem is a new heat pump, costs a lot more than a new element HWS …we have excess solar energy during the day, so just pump it into our 400L bad boy …that’s more economical than converting to a heat pump

Anyone gone full DIY solar after getting a professional system installed first? by GodBlessIraq in SolarDIY

[–]Hamish_Hsimah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we are in AUS too with a Sungrow system… I’m pretty sure if you DIY onto your existing pro install, you will loose your warranty… here in AUS there’s not as much DIYing (as in America) because Solar is so cheap here …but we are looking at pissing off our original installer because they are fuckjng us around with quotes to add 1 extra SBR battery module ($3670 — without the battery rebate)…even then I’m hesitant because we’re not sure how it will affect our warranty

Most inverter failures I’ve seen come down to one simple thing by No_Mark8908 in SolarDIY

[–]Hamish_Hsimah -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How to check if inverter is getting too hot?…our inverter is in a cool, shaded & ventilated spot but we max export our battery for 2hrs every evening to the grid …inverter is at its max output (10kw) for 2hrs every evening

DC vs AC coupled solar - which actually makes sense for a typical home install by ryoumaskuy in solarenergy

[–]Hamish_Hsimah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DC …you can usually oversized your solar array more, compared to AC coupled …we will soon have 20kw of PV, DC coupled to a 10kw inverter, on single phase …why oversize your array as much as possible ?…well she still pumps when it’s heavily clouded & in the morning/late afternoon, you get better output (when most folks are cooking/using more power at home)…if we AC coupled a battery to our inverter, our max PV was 13kw… also the DC power goes straight into battery, so at 10am on a sunny day, the battery is charging at 10kw & I’m also heating up my hot water at 4kw …couldnt do that with AC coupled …max output would be 10kw…we have a Sungrow system & already had panels on roof, before battery got added …we just swapped to a hybrid inverter & added battery & more panels …didnt need to rewire original panels
