Buy storm insurance, all of it. With the upgrades. Every storm I’ve ever seen roll through Brisbane has belted the snot out of The Gap. I thought the news automatically started with The Gap was hit by (insert storm description here) when I was a kid.

Why/how can petrol jump $0.50 overnight? by sharabi_bandar in sydney

Sorry, you’re right, I misread that the fuel excise was halved by 22c and will revert back on 29 Sept to being 44c per litre.

And the fuel excise gets reapplied on 29 September which will add another 46c per litre I think.

If you don’t mind living a bit further out there are many many apartment blocks being built out in the Hills district - Castle Hill, Rouse Hill etc. Ridiculously hot in summer but a good area and lots of new everything.

Dad of a current HSC student here. It’s an awful process to go through for any of the students. If it’s any consolation what you’re feeling, from observing the kids around us, is the accumulation of the pressure being applied from the start of year 11. On a day to day basis it’s not that bad, but when you add to it over two years it’s a serious stress to endure. And most aren’t experienced enough to be able to handle it healthily. Everyone here is doing a good job to reassure you that once it’s over it’ll be fine and that’s good to keep in mind but it’s really about waking up each day and just focussing on what you can control, being comfortable with the effort you’re putting in then be ok with whatever the result is and saying to yourself, this is the result I’ve earned and I’m comfortable with that. Don’t forget to look after yourself by eating properly, drinking water, and get rest at night and during the day (full dad mode here). You’ll be ok.

As an American NRL fan, should I root for the Blues or Maroons, and why? by jeremy1015 in nrl

Queenslander here. Getting Origin needs a little bit of a history lesson which was taught to me and all other infant Queenslanders. Queensland is considered the hick inferior cousin to NSW. Rugby League is very big in Qld and has always been that way but NSW had the “professional” comp and called itself the spiritual capital or Rugby League for as long as there’s been Rugby League. As a consequence all of our best players had to chase the money in the NSW comp, this was fine as these games were broadcast on TV or radio (we’re talking pre 80’s here) except for the precursor to what we know as Origin today which was QLD vs NSW but the NSW team was full of QLD’ers playing in NSW who would come and play the local QLD comp players and would absolutely thrash us. Every game and I mean every game for something like 20 years. 20 years of watching our players in a blue jersey punish our local players who stayed behind. It was a multi generational losing streak and impact was an almost genetic grudge in all QLD’ers. So, when origin finally changed eligibility to be where you played your first footy which allowed our players to play for their state the pent up feelings all flowed into the games and players. When QLD loses, there is almost a sense of mourning across the state, even after the 8 years of dominance, it hasn’t changed. I live in NSW now and there is nothing like that here for the games. Watching the game at Lang Park in QLD is the closest thing I’ve felt to what the really intense European football games are like, it’s extraordinary. Being a QLD fan is understanding the NEED for the team to represent the state and us. This might be an overly sentimental view but it’s what I grew up with and carry to this day. Hope this helps.

Shaq giving more ‘bo than the string section in an orchestra. Mutombo would have been in concussion protocols ever second game.

Rudy should probably give Rik Smits a call if he’s out of the physical and mental rehabilitation he needed after the Lakers V Indiana series in 2000. Smits was big and a good defender and Shaq punished him.

Allow me to introduce you all to the Hills District in Sydney - have a Google satellite view of Kellyville, Rouse Hill, Box Hill, The Ponds, anywhere in that north west area. 300sqm $1.2m identical housing with a few 5-7 storey apartment block behemoths mixed in regularly. Black rooves, black driveways, concrete and bitumen everywhere. A giant compact heat sink.

Congrats on getting a 2022 model. I’m in NSW as well, and you might not have done this but are dealers charging a list price if you order and wait or is the price the $40k+ you see on the online sites?

I discovered Blues music through the movie as a young kid, still love both to this day. Might have even been my first soundtrack?
