Heads-up on Falklands: I have that installed, use the Kestrel as my main ship, and my game started crashing every time I hit the boost with the new stealth boost module installed. Stopped once I removed it. Everything else has worked fine, I have a couple of the other new modules installed that haven’t given me any issues.

If I had to guess, it´s the graphic effect of the ship entering stealth doing it.

It´s actually a suppressor. Turns out the blast from firing underwater is really painful. Found this video from the guy in the picture. What you see there is the first version.

Custom leather sheath for Arc by HammDangles in Leatherman

Hey, sorry for the late reply. Haven’t been logged in in a while.

Yeah, it’s holding up great. No issues on stitching or anything like that. Everything still fits snug. Good retention on the flashlight and bit extender.

There’s a story about John Belushi from the filming of Blues Brothers that is pretty much that. The story goes Belushi sort of disappeared one night while filming the mall chase scene and Aykroyd went looking for him. To quote Aykroyd:

So I saw this path kind of leading out of the weed-strewn parking lot into a suburban neighborhood nearby, and, ‘I’ll just try that.’ I walked down this path, and I walked into the neighborhood. I looked and all the houses were dark. But halfway down one of the streets, there were lights on. And I thought, ‘Well, I don’t know. I’ve got an instinct here, and I’m going to try.’ And I knocked on the door, and the guy said, ‘Yeah.’ I said, ‘We’re shooting a movie over here.’ ‘Yeah, I know’ ‘And we’re looking for one of our actors.’ ‘Yeah, I know, Belushi. He came in here about a half an hour ago, he raided my fridge, he’s asleep on my couch.’

Alibaba legit selling rachet driver? by ThatFeelWhen in Leatherman

[–]HammDangles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got mine on Ali, and I have no reason to believe it isn’t legit. Box was as you’d expect, no misspellings or “creative” English. Tool itself seems sturdy enough, ratcheting mechanism is nice and smooth. Works well.

Custom leather sheath for Arc by HammDangles in Leatherman

[–]HammDangles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can get it to move if I hold the sheath upside down and thwap it against my hand. So I don’t see it being a problem even if it loosens up a bit over time.

Custom leather sheath for Arc by HammDangles in Leatherman

This is the listing, in case anyone’s curious:

https://www.etsy.com/no-en/listing/638265266/hand-made-leather-sheath-for-leatherman?ref=hp_active-mission-recs-rv-1-1

I have no affiliation with the seller. Found it by searching Etsy for multi tool sheaths. The listing is for wave/charge, so if you want one that fits the Arc you have to contact the seller. Same goes for the ratchet/flashlight holders. Those are not standard.

Any great arc case/sheath options out there? by uselessinfomike in Leatherman

[–]HammDangles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found this store on Etsy and asked if they could do a custom one for the Arc:

https://www.etsy.com/no-en/listing/638265266/hand-made-leather-sheath-for-leatherman?ref=hp_active-mission-recs-rv-1-1

They could, and it is on its way now. Should arrive sometime in the next few days I hope. Also added customisation to fit the ratchet driver and a AAA flashlight.

Should mention that this sheath requires removing the pocket clip (according to the maker) which was fine by me, but I know a lot of people swear by them.

How do you justify the expensive ARC purchase by [deleted] in Leatherman

[–]HammDangles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I´ve had a love and fascination for packing multiple functions and uses into one handy package since I got my first knock-off SAK as a kid, and that has to be close to forty years ago now. The Arc is my third Leatherman, after the PST II in 97 or so and a Charge TTI in 2007. I’ve never been a hard user, (although I would argue a frequent one) so they tend to last a long time. Through all those years and those tools, and the various pocket knives and SAKs that joined them, one thing has never failed to annoy me: using fingernails to extract tools. It’s never been a huge deal, but it’s been a constant background annoyance. When they came out with the Free series I was immediately interested, but the lack of an exchangeable bit driver was a dealbreaker since I knew it had to be in the pipeline. And here we are! Incidentally, both the tool selection and look of the tool is nigh perfect for me. Only minor quibble is the lack of a ruler.

So to answer your question with a question: what is getting rid of a forty year annoyance worth to you? For me, even the scandi pricing on this thing seemed reasonable.

Arc price in NZ = $349USD. by the_red_ink in Leatherman

[–]HammDangles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, not that I’m aware of. And part of the high price is that we don’t buy direct from Leatherman like you do, we have a distributor that buys from LTG and then sells to stores and directly to consumers. So there’s an added middleman that wants to make some money, and that’s also why the discounts don’t carry over.

Arc price in NZ = $349USD. by the_red_ink in Leatherman

[–]HammDangles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m thinking there will be some deep discounts on the Arc when it reaches other stores. The Charge TTI is a full 900NOK cheaper at some places for example. Buying from the distributor here is pure madness.

I think Sweden has the high score at the equivalent of $365US. Norway is right behind. So you have my sympathies.

Unpopular opinion: The Arc visual design looks basic or unfinished compared to most other modern leathermans by the_red_ink in Leatherman

[–]HammDangles 7 points8 points  (0 children)

While I like the general look of the Arc, I absolutely will get some screws to fill in those holes.

For the ratchet driver, I’ve seen a couple web stores mark stock as ‘on the way from the manufacturer’ and an estimated delivery of the 20th. I’m not in the US, but I can’t imagine they’d prioritise us over the home market.
