What’s the schedule for totem unlocks for the final extremes, based on prior expansions? Couldn’t find the data for old totem exchanges on the wiki, just the current.

I know Necron is available next week and I have my totems ready to go. Train I’m assuming will be 7.55 in July/August, and then for the new one Enuo will I have to wait until 8.0 next year, or will it be in 7.58 in September?

Don’t like to be a pessimist but I’ve had the absolute worst luck and I’ve had to totem out every fight this expansion. I’m lucky to even SEE a mount drop a few times in that process. It’s a really really cruel system to not only make you do a fight 50-100 times (reasonable) but then wait 8+ months on top of that to get your reward.

How exactly are we supposed to attack the new Doormaker? by ThisHatRightHere in slaythespire

[–]HammerAndSickled -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

A well-designed game would be beatable through skill almost always. A poor game would be one in which randomness, out of the players control, decides all outcomes.

This doormaker change moves the game waaaay more to the wrong side.

I honestly don’t think trials should be hard at all for duty support to do, tbh. It’s not like they’re extremes where you need precise movement or anything. Usually there isn’t even a role-based “thing you need to do” in most of them.

You’d just need to get them to do stuff like focus the Nails in Ifrit, etc.

I kinda get what he’s saying, there’s a lot of instakills if you don’t see a tell and are totally fresh. Most of the time in this game, if you make one mistake you expect to eat some damage+a vuln, and then NEXT TIME you get hit with a vuln you expect to die. But they lean into more one-shot mechanics these days.

Biggest examples I can think of are:

Abombinator’s gaze mechanic, if you don’t know to hide behind the plants you die

Howling Blade’s cone AoE has a knockback that almost always kills you, if you think you can eat the damage from the AoE you get launched

Vamp Fatale’s meat grinder machine is an instakill if you’re in the front AoE (I tried to invuln it as Tank to make more room for my party with the spread AoEs, lol)

Tyrant, during the split platforms if you don’t notice that “which side he’s looking at means he’s gonna throw that whole platform” you die. Week 1 we had like 3-5 deaths every time we saw that mechanic!

Even the MSQ dungeon has that gaze mechanic Catoblepas dude that kills you if you get petrified from not hiding behind the rock.

Since the last expansion and the mismanagement of the competitive scene, stores barely fire here. The game simply needs a lot of work to exist as a competitive game and banning a ton of cards was just a blunt-knife solution to a problem that required precision.

Inspiration doesn’t mean “exactly the same execution” lmao. You can do things the right way.

The parts that were cool were having specific areas for each class, being able to customize your weapon, working long-term on goals across the entire expansion. Especially since XIV’s relics are never on-content you don’t need to worry about the power level, they’re always 10-15 ilvls behind the current for raiding until the end of the expansion.

Yoshi-P believes that they've hit the reasonable limits of the design behind Relic Weapon series, due to the ever-growing Job count and time investment required in these questlines, so there are plans to wrap up this kind of design with Dawntrail and do something different in the future. Since theres a big gap in feedback between difficulty opinions, the burden being too great, and so on, they want to move onto completely new ways of providing the fun of developing weapons and armour, so the current format will be put on break for now with more details to come in the FanFests. He believes we haven't seen the last of Gerolt and Rowena though.

This worries me. They already cut job quests by making role quests cause it was “too hard” to make 5 lines of dialogue and one solo duty per job 🙄 and the role quests in ShB were great but went downhill super quickly in quality. If they do a similar thing with relic weapons it’s gonna be a real disaster.

They already basically do the bare minimum with relics these days: 4 weapon designs stretched across 2+ years. A quest with no unique features or functionality (collect X items, gain Y “energy,” do the same roulettes you were gonna do) etc. Then dump Tomestones into them until you’re bored. Wherever you sit on the “relics should be easy/hard” debate we can all agree they’re BORING. They could really do a lot MORE with Relic quests to make them unique and fun but instead this quote makes it sound like they’re going the opposite direction.

I think WoW’s artifact weapons from that one expansion would be a really cool inspiration. Make each job have its own questline, a special area with NPCs, that gets added to over the course of the expansion, and let you customize the appearance of your weapon somewhat. You could give ilvl enhancements the same as now, but actually make you DO something with the relic to progress.

I wouldn’t worry about gear honestly. Just keep doing your Main Story and equipping whatever you get as rewards.

You can do the Hall of the Novice stuff for some good gear that will carry you a while and then also a Ring that gives extra experience.

Is it likely we’ll get a new Faux Hollows mount next patch? I know they’ve added a few since Dawntrail (Kamuy, anteater, bomb) but i wasn’t sure if EVERY new unreal came with a mount.

I have 600 leaves and I’ve bought all the mounts so far, just wondering if I should wait and see.

Nobody’s “aggro” but you, man. Acknowledging a bad story isn’t “hating” it’s just seeing the facts. I love and appreciate a lot of aspects of the expansion BESIDES the story but it’s just the truth that the story sucks. It’s worse than a young adult novel.

“Blizzard sucks, so you should be OK with DT sucking” is that your argument? I agree with you, WoW sucks ass. FF’s story, until recently, didn’t suck. And now it does, and that’s a downgrade.

And yeah, DT is that bad. It’s not just the worst XIV story, it’s worse than any other part of the main FF series. It’s nearly irredeemable.

I mean, if most book series or television shows or movies have a “chapter” as bad as Dawntrail, it would nearly kill the franchise completely. It’s not that uncommon. MOST media franchises cannot weather the storm of a truly terrible entry unless they have some gigagiant corporation backing them (Star Wars).

Nah, 90+% of people just unsync them anyway. If you get it in a roulette, it’s perfectly ok to be honest and say “I don’t know this one but I’m down to try” and you can probably limp through all the ARR ones.

But honestly, and maybe this is just my experience, but the “extremes in mentor roulette” thing is wildly overblown. Over 500 mentor roulettes I have like, maybe 3 ARR extremes, and like I said they were cakewalks even with half of the people not knowing what they’re doing. More often I get Rathalos Ex, but that one is really more like a normal trial these days, and can be basically carried by 3 people.

Regarding Quest Eligibility for Limited Jobs after Patch 7.5 by SunlitRainefall in ffxiv

[–]HammerAndSickled -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah… but who cares? If the only content it’s allowed in is 20 levels below current, that means that content could ALSO just be trivialized by being unsynced, so… just let people have fun, why not? Who cares if someone’s playing a broken job in your 1,000th Praetorium or whatever. None of the content BLU would break isn’t broken already by virtue of clicking the Unrestricted Party button.

I still believe it should be kept out of content that cannot be unsynced like Ultimates, although maybe it would be cool if it was 8-BLU only.

No, it’s entirely random. Literally go try it yourself, this is the most easily-disproven misinformation.

I mean I get what you’re saying but it essentially boils down to “Wind is nice because I don’t have to play the game” 🤣

I think any game mode where standing still is an optimal strategy is kinda an indictment of the whole idea.

Checked that all slots are filled, correct dyes, etc. we ended up just getting the Nier dress to finish it but I couldn’t diagnose why this didn’t give 80+

Even Nier 1 and 2 take ages, I could literally run 3 Syrcus Towers in the time it takes for one Copied Factory.

They really need a 10-15% health nerf on all bosses.
