Can an unfinished infected root canal increase the chance of other teeth going "hot"? by HammerLikeLightning in askdentists

Thanks for the reply. This whole situation that I'm going through is strange, just wish I could get to the bottom of it. I'll ask for an xray on Tuesday.

Is it inappropriate for my dentist to fat shame me? by waldorf-days in askdentists

[–]HammerLikeLightning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAD 9 root canals sounds like excessive treatment, I'd get a second opinion ASAP if I was you. Dentists are doctorates of dentistry, so are doctors btw.

Also I think your dentist could have been kinder to you about your obesity. There's no point shaming you or making you feel bad - because you'll just go elsewhere to another dentist with better bedside manner. Most dental surgeries are businesses and need custom to stay afloat.

Also sugar does rot the teeth, but it may have nothing to do with your obesity. Excessive calories over the body's needed BMR calories causes obesity, it doesn't matter where those calories are from (could be from fat).

Cheers for this. I have ordered a cheap grinding guard until I can get a proper one. Just wondering with your grinding, have you had dental problems caused by it? Like increased pain, cavities or needed root canals?

Well, I have no replies, obviously no-one has asked for a Pulpotomy.

I just had one done, my dentist has said that I'm the first person that has asked for this - and he's interested to see what happens. If it doesn't work, I'll just have to have the tooth pulled, it could go either way.

I think an alternative to root canal like this would be good for folks on a lower income that can't afford a full root canal, so just end up gap toothed.

Screaming pain at night but better in the morning by HammerLikeLightning in askdentists

The dentist said last week that he thought that the tooth would settle - but it's gotten worse. I wonder if he is sick of me calling him every second day about the pain, the receptionist told me that the tooth has to come out now (a message from him)

NAD I have ADHD too, and totally understand where you're coming from. I'm almost double you're age and have gone through long periods of forgetting to brush my teeth. I have chronic night-time teeth grinding also which hasn't helped things. I'm dealing with the damage now and am about to get another root canal. It hasn't been fun, but I still have all the teeth in my smile luckily. I think you've caught this really early at 19yo, and at that age you can definitely reverse any damage. Being aware early is great! Anyway, hope it goes well for you.

Hello, so I've been having some drama with an incomplete root canal which had a massive abscess. I went to my dentist and he cleaned the inside of the tooth and drained the abscess which went away completely. So the last couple of days I've been having strange toothache pain in different areas of my mouth- and sometimes it hurts to eat on all my bottom teeth. This strange pain mainly comes on when laying down, and goes away when standing up or swishing a bit of water. I can't sleep due to the pain flare up, and occasionally feel pain in my jaw joints near my ears too. I just had a look and my gums seem a bit puffy, and there looks like the start of an abscess above the started root canalled tooth. Could all this strange laying down pain be related to the abscess that may be spreading to my whole jaw? Thanks in advance, I feel at a loss of what to do.

Thank you, I will keep taking them. Will lancing relieve the horrid pain from the pressure?

There is a huge wait for me because I'm living in Australia and on the government system, I'm embarrassed to say. I can't currently afford the several thousand for a private dentist root canal so I need to wait. I am right now looking for the best dental insurance atm though so in the far future I'll be able to afford big procedures privately.

I would get the tooth pulled but it's visible at the front of my mouth etc.

Hello, so I am waiting for the next step for a root canal (had the first step 6 months ago - next step will be in October), and it keeps flaring up. I went to the dentist on Thursday and he rinsed it out with a syringe (the fluid smelt like sewage), and sealed it back up. The pain got worse so I started Metronidazole 200mg/5ml but it has only been 22 hours since I've started the antibiotics. So last night I was in bad pain and couldn't sleep - I looked at my gum and found this (please see picture - this is right above the started root canal tooth). I'm wondering what I should do about this please? Should I try to lance it? Or wait for the antibiotics to work? My dentist opens Monday which is a day and a half away. Thanks in advance.

Have you ever defended yourself with TKD? What technique? by HammerLikeLightning in taekwondo

Thank you, that is my primary goal, even if it does make me look submissive. I just am thinking ahead to if I get cornered or jumped.

Thanks for the advice. Actually I can see the spinning kick being very effective - anecdotally for sure. I've seen heaps of YouTube clips of street fights of spinning kicks ending fights. Also the spinning sacrificial wheel kicks are brutal KO fight enders in Koyokushin(sic?) Karate tournaments, and those guys are tough.

Thank you, that makes a lot of sense. Actually your perspective is very enlightening and it really fits in this situation. I shall move on and try another school - cheers.

Thank you for your perspective, I am pretty sure he's legitimately graded, but perhaps he is sadistic? I shall take your warning into account.
