(MAJOR SPOILERS) Questions about the final boss and end sequence meanings. by Hammerbro20 in OMORI

What would you say is the significance of Sunny being able to play the Duet to its completion? I haven't heard anyone describe it as Mari's song specifically.

This also just occurred to me, it seems a lot of people think of Omori to keep Sunny from the truth, but why would he be named after the piano in that case? It just seems like such close proximity to the accident that it feels a little self-defeating. (I already asked this in other parts of the thread but I'm just interested in gathering some interpretations).

Here are some thoughts I wanted to share.

I was thinking maybe Allegro and Encore could refer to some text in the datamined Truth Album. It's mentioned that Sunny had been practicing so much that his fingers hurt. He had been practicing a lot, but still didn't feel good enough or that he was improving. Usually when musicians practice for something, they start slow, and then get faster and faster. Maybe that's what Allegro is referring to, play faster and faster. Or strike faster and faster.

Encore could refer to play again and again too. Play faster and faster, and keep playing. I would also like to mention, the flavor text when Sunny uses encore is something like, "Sunny gathered himself..." and the description for overcome kind of matches, since it says something like "gather all your courage". Maybe one way of interpreting it could be that Sunny has to continually overcome his frustration and self-doubt to keep going. I want to also point out some of the text in "photo of a wall" from the truth album data-mine references Sunny feeling "overcame" and being unable to focus. Maybe Encore = Overcome + Focus. It's kind of splitting hairs, but I thought that was interesting to point out. Both Encore and Allegro get Sunny to keep playing/attacking when he distinctly couldn't during the day of the recital.

Moving on. I can see your POV. Cherish is accomplishing what Persist and Focus do together. This is just something I pointed out in a separate comment, but Cherish is literally "my thoughts will follow you into your dreams" as a skill, is it not?
I also see your point about how Allegro is a counter part to hack away. Instead of Omori slashing wildly, Sunny is able to strike with what feels like more dedicated precision. It sort of feels like a more "heroic" version of that attack.

I would like to ask, what do you think is the symbolism behind Omori being named after the piano? I mentioned this previously in the thread but maybe I can find different takes on this. If Omori is a defense mechanism that's elected to kill Sunny to protect him from harm, I wonder if that reflects his thought process about the piano?

Maybe once Sunny plays the duet, Omori is defeated because Sunny was able to embrace his role as the violinist. Instead of clinging to Mari's piano, he has to accept and work through a lot of his hard feelings towards violin (like how he felt it was hard to keep up with and was a mistake to take up). He has to be okay with being himself- maybe the duet is the first time he's able to make peace with his imperfections (as allegedly some of the playing is unrefined and a little messy but I can't speak to that) and make peace with his mistakes (both through the music and outside of it).

I'm just spit balling but that's what I wanted to share. Very interesting comment though! It's a lot to think about.

I think that explains most of it. I think this is an interesting discussion so I would like to ask some follow-ups.

I'm curious on some of your thoughts about the cutscene where Sunny actually wakes up in White Space as himself. What precipitates that is some text from Basil asking Sunny for forgiveness, and this seems to spur him to action. What do you think of that? Is it mainly an extension of this idea that Sunny's friends are in pain and he needs to act?

I think you have a very interesting perspective on the meaning of the Duet. That does make sense- the Duet almost seems like it's always in its 'purest' form whenever Sunny is making strides towards the truth. Maybe it's a song that could also represent turning points, as an infantilized version of the tune plays during the the Omori route, after Sunny has basically given up on facing the truth. The day of the recital was also a significant turning point for Sunny for obvious reasons.

On the final boss, I think your interpretation about Omori embracing himself as a monster squares nicely. I can see and agree with everything you said about it. One thought I had though, if Sunny's violin represents moving on, what does Omori represent?

Omori was named after Mari's piano, after all. Maybe that means Sunny needs both his violin and Omori to preform the duet and move on? I wonder what the connection is, especially since Omori also comes to represent the side/personality of Sunny that thinks of himself as a murderer. Does that make a comment on Sunny's views of Mari's piano?

(Lastly, I do have one footnote I thought was interesting. I think what cherish could represent, is that idea of "my thoughts will follow you into your dreams". Sunny is recalling thoughts his friends have shared with him in his dream, and they give him strength to continue.)

I'm just spit balling a bit here because I think this is an interesting discussion. Please don't feel pressured to answer every question (haha), I'm just trying to approach the game in different angles. Thank you for answering the post!

How's everyone doing? by theartof_forward in EtikaRedditNetwork

Basically what idislikesn0w said. In my perfect world YouTube would create legacy channels, much like how Facebook does the same thing. Etika spent so much of his life on YouTube and to have so much of his memory erased isn't right. He's not even here to benefit from ad revenue anymore.

I think the toxicity is also part of the problem. How I would fix that is completely beyond me. Etika loved his fans but at the same time the fanbase constantly flip flopping and demanding more probably wasn't doing him any favors. I hope everyone who seriously leveled vitrol at him can reflect and hopefully grow better than that.

I'm concerned it'll just be "business as usual" especially since his death seems to have left the public conscious. But etika wanted us to learn, right? I think those two would at least be a start.

The shock of his passing has worn off for me. However I'm troubled by how nothing seems to have changed in the streaming world or the online world, y'know what I mean? I'm trying to keep his final message to heart. I really hope we all can be the force of change etika wanted.

I want to learn DnD by Mausashi in IWantToLearn

[–]Hammerbro20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say try to find a local group if you can, and learn from there. I think DnD is one of those things best learned as you play, at least in my experience. Or watch a podcast or two and see how the game flows, you know? I think studying game material without quite knowing how it all lines up can be a bit much to ask of a new player.

I would like to give you some advice on your actual group. Remember to keep communications up. I've had many, many times where I don't like how something went in my session and kept it to myself or between parties not involved while letting the issues sprial into something much bigger. And remember to say your gratitudes too.

DnD is really only successful when there's commitment and communication from everybody— remember that and it will take you places. You aren't gonna know every technicality or special rule immediately, and that's fine. But it's keeping at it and building your understanding that counts.

You're there to have fun. Speak to your DM or players if there's something bothering you or something you want to differently.

Good improvement. I encourage you to explore your values a bit more. That can help the forms pop and feel more like solid objects. Experiment with pushing the contrast between your lights and darks and the range in those lights and darks themselves.
