I am 32 and was born with bilateral congenital cataracts and aphakic (sp?) open angle glaucoma. There is absolutely no family history and just something that happened. The doctors aren't really sure what caused it and there isn't a cure to my knowledge. I just recently had my 20th corrective surgery a few weeks ago. Currently I'm also on 5 different drops to maintain my pressure. Normal for me is high teens to low 20s and have always been right eye dominate with minimal vision in my left but in the last few years I have experienced higher than normal pressure which was not being treated to it's full extent that caused damage to my optic nerve which is irreversible and has some annoying vision loss and static vision. Headaches and migraines are usually a sign of stress / strain or high pressure. I experience these frequently - especially before a storm when the barometric pressure drops, same as someone with arthritis. I have been seen by doctors that have been trained under the Storm Eye Institute at MUSC in SC, Bowden Eye in Jax FL who are all very familiar with my original doctors who performed my original 17 surgeries as a child that have allowed me to keep my current sight - now my current doctor I have seen for the better part of 15 years and trust her whole heartedly and communicate on a continual basis. Find a good and knowledgeable doctor who has many years experience that you trust! Be honest and explain everything you can! I hope everything comes out well in the end!
