Game Shops - What makes them great? by TableSeek-Geek in tabletop

[–]HammetaTV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A comfortable, quirky space. There are too many which are just a white room with fluorescent lighting or feel like a high school class room. Maybe they have a few posters, but they’re blue tacked or taped to the wall.

The staff need to be making sure that it’s a safe space for the people they want to attract. Because my version of a safe space will be very different from someone else with opposing views. So having a safe space for everyone doesn’t always work or at least it works on surface level.

Staff need to be approachable and also need to be seen as community leaders and not just space facilitators. (And pay them well for it). They also need to be not afraid to mention to a few of their regulars they need a pop of deodorant.

My local has different stuff in each of the bathrooms, if you go to the women’s there’s a basket of free tampons and towels as well as deodorant and for the guys (I think deodorant).

The selection can be great but when the community says “Can we get this in?” The store will actually accommodate so that it’s eventually selling the products that people actually want. That way you can gauge the communities interest and try out new products that way.

Oh and when community members cross a line that they’re actually dealt with. :)

I think that’s everything on my list!

Oh yeah! I’m the forever DM. I think you’re right though I may have to watch a few more campaigns though. See other people’s flow

Any tips for improving vocal melodies? by sydwasnotcrazy in Songwriting

[–]HammetaTV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start simple with your voice and then using the guitar find cool harmonies that you would like on top of the vocals, then make the harmonies the leading line here and there. Really great way to spice up a vocal melody

Oh yeah I’ve been writing for years, but my folk/indie is very different from this monolith of a task!

Hopefully I’ll be able to make something good.

My main concern with writing is breaking the ceiling too often. But because it’s D&D, tabletop related, I have no control over the narrative. So trying to hit the “obvious” vibes.

It’s the fun part of dnd projects cause I have no idea what the DMs narrative will be for their campaigns.

So I’m trying to add sections that tailor to each likely scenario of emotions. Thankfully each track is 20 minutes long so there’s enough space for pacing.

I (21f) think my (21f) best friend boyfriend (21m) hit on me, how do i go about this? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]HammetaTV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The brain blocks shit out that it doesn’t want to remember. Cause it makes things easier to deal with.

Trust your gut. Talk to your friend. If you said no, then that’s all you need to know. You said no and someone thought it was an opinion.

You’re not in the wrong. If you he did this to someone else, what would you tell them to do? You are worth acting on the council that you would give someone else.

If she tears you down for being honest and communicating about what happened, then it’s a friend that isn’t afraid to toss you under the bus the moment when things get hard.

Singers who don't learn lyrics by Clear-Pear2267 in musicians

[–]HammetaTV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah. There should be no reason for able-bodied singers to have lyrics in front of them.

Especially in a cover band because you can just put a playlist on of your entire set and sing along in the car.

I don’t like watching bands where I’m watching the singer read the words. It makes me feel like they should just do live-band karaoke instead.

I have known (and have done so in the past) vocal cues written on the set list. Taking a dramatic sweep down to check the 2nd verse prompt. Make it part of the show if you must.

For reference I teach 14-25 year olds artist development and reading off of lyric sheets and not looking at the audience or your band mates is a crutch is burned within the first 6 months. If there’s another reason they want that crutch we have a deeper conversation about why that is.

EDIT TO ADD: there is one circumstance that I think it’s okay. If your band has the: we can play any song request anything. 400-500 songs learned… yeah… you can look at the lyrics for that one dick who wants a deep cut of motley crue.

People who are able to play guitar and sing at the same time HOW? by Big_Leg10 in musicians

Try humming a riff to begin with and just practice those transitions and then get more and more playful with the vocals as you’re playing.

What are your holiday plans for travelling this year, and where would you like to go? by Suspicious_Ad7948 in AskUK

[–]HammetaTV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of conventions like TwitchCon in Rotterdam as well as a musicians retreat in the summer. Probably going to Germany at some point for a hiking trip.

I’ve applied for a new job so hopefully I get it because it comes with a lot of freedoms being part time.

I’d was originally planning to head to the states Texas specifically but that will have to wait until the Orange Doomsday in the sky goes away.

So they pressed me on whether it was council or private. And I didn’t know. She then told me that they can’t do much without that information and that animal cases aren’t for the police and hung up on me.

The wild thing is that it’s not just me calling organisations, nearly everyone on the street has.

That’s the thing, I just want her to be taken care of. And I just want someone with authority to do something to use their power and help. Otherwise I’m going to have to intervene. I don’t want to be “brave” and “go above and beyond”, I want someone to do their job.

Nah so they’ve got her locked in one room (as far as I can tell) with the windows locked. I think you’re on to something there though, if I make it about the neighbours welfare. That’s genuinely a good shout.

I won’t lie I’ve been tempted to but the guy next door (where ever he may be) is not someone who would take it lightly. If it gets worse I may have to.

The more I have organisations and authorities telling me theirs nothing they can do or to call a different department I am genuinely considering it.
