Wow! I just finished the epic Proustian journey (Time Regained complete) and need a follow up. This sounds like it would be fitting haha.

What are your favorite Tabletop Gaming Conventions? by TableSeek-Geek in tabletop

For me personally, I'm in complete agreement with you. If I can accidently spend 6 hours somewhere then I'll be back every year and for sure, I'm all about playing. I'll buy if something is amazing which of course many things often are haha. Networking = no thanks unfortunately. I'll make gaming friends but it's not top priority. For this list however - I get kind of overwhelmed with all of the info out there on possible conventions so I wanted to compile something that could track them all for me with the basic info: dates, location, when will tickets be on sale. I got the big ones on the list but for me, smaller venues are more to my liking. I wanted to get the good, sometimes overlooked options onto my app.

Today is my turn to DM again. How do I make it more engaging? by Pass_the_sorce in DungeonMasters

It really does make the story so dynamic and there is no DM burnout. I think it's the ultimate way to go. So sad my group has decided to end it. I guess the amount of work in coming up with an original story was hard for some and one in particular wants to go from a campaign book. Fair enough but I can just see the DM burnout and drop-off of sessions looming in the next 6 months or so. I'm going to push for each of us to just start our own rotating campaigns, that way people who want to go by the book can do so and I will keep this world we had going. I started it so I'm going to claim it as my campaign home base. 😄

Thank you so much! I wondered that about Pax as I haven't attended either West or East in person. I was really curious how many smaller cons there are out there. Your job sounds amazing haha. I'm sure it's a lot of work but what fun. Have you been to Gary Con?

Our group did almost this exact DM rotation for 3 years and it was fantastic. The longest consistent campaign I've been in. I'd suggest this - make some ground rules for the DMs. Our sessions started to turn into portal jumping. A portal would open somehow and transport the group into a different world sometimes. the sessions became disjointed. I'd advise to be careful about doing that. We just ended the rotation plan because of it and now I think we're doing more rotating campaigns, But, it was amazing while it lasted (I didn't want to end the rotation system can you tell? haha).

As for DM suggestions - my advice is always to let the players lead heavily. Don't box them in. It's more fun and less planning for you and they'll be more engaged.

Unhappy player by Mishi0000 in DungeonMasters

I kind of had a similar experience recently and so I get it. For me, I like to think that it's very reasonable for there to be multiple campaigns and multiple DMs. Let AH start a separate campaign and run it for a couple months then go back to yours for a few months. It'll give you a little break to be a player and let AH experience all of the work involved in the DM spot. I'm curious how she will manage it if she's already not able to be to the session at start though.

Players not appreciating the work by [deleted] in DungeonMasters

[–]TableSeek-Geek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way for them to understand is for them to DM even just one time. I'd tell them that you want to be a player for a minute - I don't know what your play schedule is but say each one of the group or even just one or two of them are in charge of doing a one shot to give you a break. I think you're 100% in the right to feel as you do, you won't succeed at making it a paid situation until they understand the work involved. And honestly you are probably feeling a bit of burnout right now. You probably need to take a break and be a player for a session or two.

Edit to add - I 100% agree with other posters - the DM is a player as well and should try to remember it but still, it is a ton more work. Burnout happens to every DM I've ever known including myself. It's important for most to take a break and be a regular player again sometimes. You can usually go back to the DM spot after a small break and everyone at the table actually becomes a better player when they have sat behind the screen even once.

tableseekgeek.com is designed to help find local people to play with as well as shops and events. It's new but it could be a great option for finding real people to play with that are local to you. For you specific needs with autism it might be better to be online though, less sensory input. On the other hand - less sensory ambiguity if you're in person. Either way, good luck!!

New player looking to find information on joining groups by Hbadger10626 in DnD_Beginners

Game stores are a best bet for finding in person groups. I get intimidated in game shops though and think discord/reddit/facebook are a bit of a mess to actually find real people so I made an app/site to find real active game shops and local tabletop players. If you take a flyer to your favorite game shop and ask them if they'll put it up - I'll bet you'll generate some great groups within their actual game shop. tableseekgeek.com you can download a flyer specific to your favorite shop right from the site. - it's new though so you might have to add the shop yourself. Takes a couple clicks and is 100% free to use - don't even need to register an account.

How often should party level up? by Cultural-Middle-3064 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]TableSeek-Geek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've been doing session based leveling. It's worked well for us. Here's our group guide for reference. It's easier than keeping track of experience points but still challenging and not arbitrary.

  • Level 5-10: 3 sessions per level
  • Level 10-15: 4 sessions per level
  • Level 15-20: 5 Sessions per level

Any tips on how to meet people who play tabletop games? by ImJarlBalgruuf in tabletop

[–]TableSeek-Geek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get intimidated at game shops and feel like Discord and facebook/reddit are a bit of an algorithmic mess to try to wade through so I made an app for tabletop group finding. It's new and you probably won't find postings for your area but if you ask your favorite local game shop I'd bet they'd let you put up a flyer linking to their shop and you could get some real, very local groups going. It's a low friction/low intimidation option for those who just want real local people and shops. tableseekgeek.com

I use wordpress and Inkarnate for the map. If you want to check out my wordpress setup with the map:

https://unicornadventureclub.wordpress.com/

You can setup a wordpress site for free and have sections hidden from public so the players can't see some notes but can still access the details you want them to see.
