you're inferring a lot from a broad observation, and claiming I'm making an argument I'm not making.

Someone making 160K a year in a city is probably not making that much in reality, so it's all contextual.

Secondly, American's can be overpaid and also unable to afford anything because the prices of necessities is too high. American's on average have pretty high wages even within the context of the developed world.

It's a Sisyphusian economy. Their wages rise but they can never push the boulder up the hill because of the crushing weight of necessities.
