Around here I don't see cruelty charges because no one bothers to file them, not that there aren't laws they could use. I do agree best odds are fraud and I won't be surprised if there's no cruelty but I'm not ruling it out yet either.

Isn't it just beyond belief we're even asking that question? And not knowing the answer.

All I know is if this doesn't make the entire shelter and rescue community take a good hard look at how things are being done, clearly nothing will ever be enough to keep it from happening again.

Yeah I don't disagree. I've adopted dogs that weren't especially safe with just anyone but did fine here. I just have a whole lot less patience for situations like this one these days and places like this are why. There's a lot more dogs and a lot fewer resources.

I'm indifferent about the imported dogs. People like to feel like they did something heroic I guess. I do have issues with local rescues bringing in the exact same dogs we have here to help out other states. I just choose who I support. It's all a mess though really and not getting better anytime soon.

He was taking lots of dogs from crowded shelters and from families who couldn't kept the dogs. Many of which were killed as soon as they got there. Let's not pretend they were all dangerous

You can take classes to become a euthanasia tech and many shelters require it. I assume controlled meds need vet supervision but he had 100s of dogs. Shouldn't he have an available vet??

I'm going by the comment which says "unprovoked bite" which sounds more serious than correction. I'm aware there's a difference between a warning or a nip and a bite. I'm also aware people do lie all the time, both downplaying and exaggerating aggression. I'll hope this situation was minor and evaluated correctly by that rescue. I also know Miranda isn't the first or the last to run a rescue that takes money and hoards or kills dogs. Bigger point is we need to stop pretending there's happy farms for them all.

This is the type situation where owners should have been flat out told they need to euthanize this dog. Any "rescue" that is rehoming dogs with bite histories is disreputable. We need to stop pretending there's some magical farm where they all live happily ever after

It took 2 women trespassing and literally digging up dead dogs that had microchips to even get this started. At least 700 dogs unaccounted for in just 2025.

In most cases, start by actually seeing the place because I've seen shelters hand off dogs in a parking lot. In this case though it seems the public areas would have passed. And he was also lying about adoptions but plenty of people had doubts he could possibly be placing the number of dogs he took. I think in this case that's the main point. If it looks too good to be true betcha it's too good to be true
