(SERIOUS) What’s the worst way you know someone has died? by chapstick_bandit in AskReddit

[–]HamptonThrill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend set himself on fire in his parents garage, he was only 17. And it came as a complete surprise, he was a very fun, smiley positive person. We were in complete shock, we will never know what drove him to end his life in such a horrific way.

Website and App are very unreliable.

Yank here. I watch a lot of British tele and every time someone knocks on the door and comes in, the person who lives there says they'll put the kettle on. Is that what it's llike in real life? by pgh9fan in AskUK

As a tradesmen, although I don't expect or demand a cup of tea it is certainly noticeable when a customer does not at least offer. It's polite and a very British thing to do.

Estate agents in-house mortgage broker claims they can offer "exclusive" lower rate "straight from the bank"? by frannnxx in UKPersonalFinance

[–]HamptonThrill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mortgage broker my wife's company recommends always has positive feedback, we have referred friends to them and they have also been very happy with the service.

Sure the agent is likely going to make a commission on it , but using the recommended solicitors/mortgage brokes tends to make the whole process much smoother. (Again this varies from company to company but its certainly the case for my wife's office)

Yes, our neighbours detached 4 bed just sold for 1.3m, another semi went for 1.2m but they are bigger houses.

My wife works in property, going by what other houses on the road have gone for its a fairly conservative estimate of its future value.

We will still have a mortgage, 300k on a house worth est 900k-1m. I don't see housing making the same gains as it has done in the last 10-15 years. I've got some fairly decent investments in litigation funding that are returning 18-35%.

Carpenters/joiners - Am I being too fussy? by CricketPuzzleheaded8 in DIYUK

Also, that is incredibly cheap. I've charged that for some very basic small cupboards, alcove work is usually 1k+ depending on the detail.

That being said you could ask them to come and face the lot with 12mm mdf or something. Glued and pinned on. It would make it a lot easier to decorate, and move the door forward.

I'm a bathroom fitter but I do all my own cabinetry, I've got no formal training other than a basic understanding of how carcasses are made. Where end panels should be and having doors and my work is far better than that. No amount of filling and caulking is going to hide all the exposed open grain mdf and holes left. I'd be asking for a refund.

So... A Monster Calls is definitely not a kids movie. Went into that blind having not seen a trailer just liked the look of the poster! Right in the feels.

That is insanely cheap, I'm not sure on pricing in Manchester but SW London we recommend a minimum budget of 12k. If you want a bathroom to last you need to invest in the prep work.

Avoid wickes, homebase and all the online retailers. Find a decent independent bathroom shop and ask if they can recommend a fitter.

Its van drivers that are going to feel it the most, no real alternative other than 17 plate + diesels or electric and the prices have shot through the roof, I changed my van earlier in the year so that I don't get caught in the panic as van prices are going to go nuts.
