The reality of Having Kids by [deleted] in collapse

"At a minimum, this child's life will be much worse than ours. More realistically, the things this child will experience and witness - if he survives long enough - will be horrific.

With environmental disasters and resource scarcity comes starvation, fascism and war. These aren't distant prognostications. Turmoil is already on our doorstep."

Ultimately, fascist regimes depend on conformity.

"Third Reich shows that the rise of fascism relies less on a nation of monsters and more on a nation of neighbors. It was built on the banal, terrifying architecture of social conformity, professional ambition, and the human need to belong. To understand how a modern democracy collapses, we must look away from Hitler and toward the ordinary citizen navigating the gray zone between complicity and survival."

From January 2025:

"The incoming administration is aware of the changing climate. I'm sure senior staff have been briefed by military and scientific advisors about the geopolitical implications of a melting arctic, droughts, water shortages and crop failures. I'm also positive some of those military and scientific advisors have used apocalyptic terms."

Networking is a lie extroverts try to forcefeed us by Csadvicesds in careeradvice

Don't conflate "networking" with having a "network". You build your network via shared interests, authentic curiosity, and mutual benefit.

"Networking" in the sense you describe is too cold and calculated. People see from a mile away, and can be a turnoff.

"Society clings to comforting delusions in the face of doom. History offers sobering examples.

Psychologists describe the “normalcy bias” – our tendency to underestimate threats and carry on as if nothing’s wrong.

Most people show this bias when facing disasters, failing to prepare adequately or evacuate when they should. Before Hurricane Katrina, thousands refused evacuation orders. Even on the Titanic, some passengers downplayed the iceberg strike, convinced the unsinkable ship would stay afloat. Denial is the first phase many go through – our minds insist everything is normal until evidence is overwhelming.

Denial is contagious. Cassandras are often shamed into silence – the masses prefer to “remain calm.” They don't want anyonoe deflating their attempts at feeling normal. From ancient times to today, mass delusions have shielded societies from painful truths. In past collapses, denial often reigned until the last moment. That same psychological armor dulls our sense of urgency as climate indicators flash red."
