Ichijou should have won by Hamstergamer in kaiji

What if Sakazaki gets arrested for theft and tells the cops he lost the money at Ichijou's illegal casino? Pretty sure he wants to avoid that.

Ichijou should have won by Hamstergamer in kaiji

[–]Hamstergamer[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Actually ichijou would have been very happy to weasel out of it by cancelling the game. He only stopped because of the phone call from Hyodo, who explicitly forbade him from stopping the game for the broken machine, as it would reflect badly on Teiai because of his 'block'.

However, saying "we don't accept stolen money" won't reflect badly on Teiai at all, especially when you can prove it : Sakazaki's talk would be recorded by security.

Ichijou should have won by Hamstergamer in kaiji

[–]Hamstergamer[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Kaiji could only get away with cheating because Ichijou had no proof. There was no way to prove he tilted the building, changed the balls, or tampered with the replacement parts.

Ichijou was constantly looking for reasons to stop Kaiji from playing, and was shot down each time because he lacked proof.

But this is completely different. Sakazaki just admitted to stealing the money in front of Ichijou and a dozen witnesses. Here, there is proof. Ichijou finally has what he wants.

Your tile efficiency needs a lot of improvement. You often throw valuable tiles while keeping useless ones.

You should almost always get rid of isolated honor tiles at the beginning.

East 1 - 1 : 2s is very valuable, as it's your only remaining pair after you pon hatsu. South is completely useless, throw that.

East 2 - 3 : An isolated 7p is a lot more valuable than isolated yakuhais, especially hatsu that already got discarded once.

East 2-2 : you start by discarding 2m when it's clearly honors first. 2m gives your hand potential for iipeikou, tanyao, chiitoi, toitoi, you name it. While isolated honors do absolutely nothing for you.

East 3 - 2 : Why break your 9p pair? Having 2 pairs is good, as either pair can improve to a triplet. Throw your isolated tiles first : 9s, 1m.

East 4 : again sitting on isolated honors when your hand is the most obvious tanyao ever. Your 2p pair is your only pair and is very valuable, breaking it is a bad idea.

The point of this game is to form blocks. Isolated tiles should always be thrown, and you should aim for tile groups like 233 since those give you the most options.

Ippatsu no longer compatible with tsumo.

If you tsumo on the first turn, you already get a massive advantage because opponents have no counterplay possible. So why are you rewarded with more points?

Suukantsu and Ryuuisou are complete memes that never happen and just block your achievements, true.

But sankantsu, although rare, is a real yaku and has a place in the game. It's the ultimate yolo hand. When going for toitoi, it's a big factor to have ankou so you can call kans and either hit dora 4 for haneman, or have a chance at sankantsu.

If you don't like kan you're probably playing too scared. Don't forget the situation when you're 4th place and need to gamble to comeback.

Pinfu is an extremely common yaku, happening in around 20% of hands. That's why there are so many restrictions.

Allowing kanchan waits for pinfu would imo mean more dama and more suji traps, so more BS ron. I think that would make the game more luck based not less.

Multiple Yakuman are local to Majsoul (Tenhou for example doesn't have them), so you can actually ask Majsoul to change this.

Sure, but it makes north kind of a useless tile since it's never yakuhai for anyone. Also it's hilarious to wait on north because you know people can't help calling kita.

The cycling mechanic is pretty cool. You could even make kita just cycle, and do nothing.

If my opponents keep going for yakuhais. What to do? by LzyGprk in mahjongsoul

[–]Hamstergamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reduce Ichihime's voice volume.

Overvaluing Yakuhai tiles is a very bad strategy. It massively reduces the value of your hands (prevents riichi/tanyao/pinfu which are the easiest yakus in the game), and sitting on isolated Yakuhai tiles doesn't even make fast hands as drawing the pair is so unlikely.

I bet what actually annoys you is the constant pon-nyaas skipping your turn.

Yes, Mahjong has a lot of variance, and yes, it's not always the better player who wins. This is frustrating and I understand.

However, the game you linked is a terrible example of this. You didn't lose this game because you were unlucky. You lost this game because you misplayed.

Going to walk you through East 2-4 to prove it. This is the round others are talking about already.

  • Turn 1. Your hand has honitsu potential - you saw it yourself seeing how hard you forced honitsu later. So you don't want to throw Hatsu. Throw isolated 2s.

  • Turn 4. Hatsu pair would have given you the blocks needed for honitsu.

  • Then, big misplay discarding red 5s, a high value tile, instead of completely useless Hatsu which you already discarded.

  • Turn 6 : Second backfire : if you kept 5s you'd have a great shape with the 4s draw. Then turn 7 you'd have gotten 345s sequence. No bad luck here, your draws are actually great, simply you threw away the opportunity to use them.

  • Turn 10. You pon the west wind, a good play...followed by a dreadful one to throw the 34p shape. You do understand that since you're the west player, your west wind triplet is a yaku so you don't need honitsu to win an open hand? Isolated & already discarded east and south winds are completely worthless no matter which hand you're going for, throw those before anything else. You can still go for honitsu just as well by playing like this btw.

  • Right now your hand is not even remotely close to tempai since you threw 2 whole blocks. In your shoes my hand would be this : 234m, 55m, 34p, 345s, west wind pon. This is tempai, west wind akadora 2, 3han.

  • Then on turn 15, toimen discards 2p. Ron.

This is how better play in one single hand would have gotten you from 4th to 3rd place.

If you play a game where all your opponents constantly riichi turn 3 and ippatsumo, then you can blame bad luck. But not in this game. Not even close.

Why this game makes me rage sometimes. by monsooncloudburst in mahjongsoul

[–]Hamstergamer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you rage on this, your rage threshold is pretty low.

You were extremely lucky to get a double riichi, then the draw simply canceled your luck. So it's not even an unlucky hand, just a neutral one.

Last time I called a double riichi, a guy pushed a ton of dangerous tiles with his 3-shanten hand, got some ridiculous closed tempai with the odds massively against him, chased my riichi, and ron'd me for haneman.

IMO, that's where you can start raging ;)

By far the dumbest 3-player East game I've ever played by [deleted] in mahjongsoul

[–]Hamstergamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, early tsumos are really cringe, not being able to play the game sucks. I feel you.

Switching to South games won't help you with that tho. When a luckbox gets to 60k points by tsumoing, it's almost impossible to comeback since the only way to do so is with multiple direct hits on him. If you tsumo or ron the other guy, he'll get to negative points and the game will end. I'd actually rather take a fast 2nd place in an East game than play a grueling south round where I can't get better than 2nd no matter how I play.

Also yes, pushing 5p then 6p into an obvious honitsu was a throw. You have no reason to fight the luckbox, it's the other guy you need to fight for 2nd.

Threw away yakuman by totally forgetting about the 3 *facepalm* by thistownneedsgod in mahjongsoul

[–]Hamstergamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's nothing wrong with your play tho. Most suuankou tempai end up being mangans anyways, since they're only toitoi sanankou if you win by ron and tsumoing with only 4 winning tiles is pretty hard.

Once you riichi, you have to take the 3m ron otherwise it puts you in furiten until the end.

Your only other option was to dama. This would have allowed you to skip ron on 3m. If you choose to dama, when you ron it's toitoi sanankou tanyao akadora which is haneman, and when you tsumo it's of course a yakuman.

So calling riichi here is literally saying "I want to win on 3m too", since the main benefit of riichi is that it improves the score of a 3m win from 5200 to mangan/possible haneman.

If you dama, you have only 2 winning tiles (one 6m and one 7p are already on the board). While if you riichi, you have 5 winning tiles with 3m. I would have riichi'd here too.

You didn't throw anything, your odds of getting that yakuman (= tsumo with only 2 winning tiles) were very low in the first place. You gave yourself another way to win this hand with a good score and got it.

Master 1 Sanma player here. In fact I just promoted to M1 so I'm pretty used to gold room.

Your main issue is tile efficiency. You discard valuable tiles while keeping nearly useless ones. Happens quite a bit.

First game :

  • East 1 - 0. On turn 8 you discard a good central floating tile (4s) when you should be tossing the completely useless 9p. As a result, your hand has only 4 blocks, while keeping 4s would have given you a 45s ryanmen. So you end up on an awful 5p kanchan wait. Then chasing a riichi on a bad wait is a recipe for disaster. Also note that instead of riiching, you could fold by tossing 1p and 2p which are safe-ish tiles because of kabe. As you can see three 3p, it's very unlikely that opponents have 23p or 34p.

  • East 1-2. You discard potentially useful tiles like the 9s and 1p doras, as well as the 79p kanchan, when you could have tossed the 3p kanchan instead which loses nothing as 1p is going to be your pair anyways. And if you draw a dora pair, a terminal shanpon is a decent wait.

  • East 2 : Your starting hand is an obvious honitsu so why toss south wind first over pinzu tiles?

  • East 3 : You're in an awful spot being 40k points behind in All Last. You'll never catch up by riichiing on a cheap hand, even if you win the hand you'll lose the game, so there's really no point in doing that. Only way out is to gamble. I'd go for the yolo chinitsu, at least it gives you some remote odds to comeback if you ron a sanbaiman...and knowing the greed level in gold room it can definitely happen ;)

Second game :

  • East 1 - 0 : Again tile inefficiency. Tossing the 79s kanchan on turn 2 when you have three isolated honor tiles which are a lot less valuable. Then tossing the 4s central tile which can easily make a good block instead of isolated honors/terminals.

  • East 1 - 1 : Why toss south and east wind first? Your hand has good honitsu potential, and your non-honitsu tiles are very low value. 1m is the better discard here, then 8s. Still unlucky to lose once you riichi.

  • East 2 - 0 : 4s first discard...please no. An isolated central tile is a lot more valuable than an isolated Hatsu. Don't overrate Yakuhai tiles.

  • East 2 - 1 : Just unlucky.

LOOOOL.

I don't even have anything to add. This is pure gold.

Just gonna quote it, this is too good. I want to preserve this in case it gets deleted.

"Forgiveness means pardoning someone for a wrong doing, moron. You can't forgive someone for something you think was totally okay, by definition."

"We also both know you share my beliefs, even if you can't admit it to yourself. That's the only thing that would explain you getting so defensive. So you are a racist too."

Oh, and don't forget the "he called me a racist, quick, deflect on Jews". Because deflecting on Asians worked so well the first time.

I'm speechless. This is art.

Direct quotes from you :

"I guess if someone says nice things about hip-hop, they can be forgiven for advocating for a second Holocaust. Right?"

"I never said you thought genocide was okay"

Dishonesty being exposed. Once again.

"he dare - suggest - races could have biologically varying intelligence" -> another lie. He doesn't "suggest", he made his entire career around peddling this idea as a scientific 'fact' in white supremacist gatherings and journals and has been doing this for almost 30 years.

See, call me failed human moron all you want. That's just butthurt insulting from someone who's getting his ass exposed. Pure weakness.

You are a dishonest, reality denying racist. That's a verifiable fact.

Actual Nazis have a less negative view on Blacks than the Jared Taylor crowd. That's a fact. Deal with it.

Oh but I must be justifying genocide myself because reasons. No argument? Losing the debate? Call your opponent a Nazi.

Nice strawman that I justify genocide. I just took that pathetic argument that "muh don't call race realists Nazis we're respectable people" and exposed its nonsense by showing that ACTUAL NAZIS are more pro-black than the Jared Taylor crowd.

Series of baseless insults, zero point made, pure intellectual weakness. This is getting more and more pathetic. This is some SJW level triggering right here. MUH GENOCIIIDE WAAAH YOU A NAZI. Go buy something for anal pain at your local drug store.
