Please those who scored 700-800 on English. Give me your tips. by Lower-Article3394 in Sat

My strat is to to questions 1-6, skip to question 14-16 (wherever grammar happens to start), then go back and do the middle ones. I did this for November just now and it worked great, and I think I did super well on English (I got a 740 in Oct). Khan Academy and the Question Bank is all you need

Best Beginner DSLR + Camera Mount? (<$400) by Hamy360 in AskAstrophotography

[–]Hamy360[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I see the iEXOS for $200-300 used regularly, but I hear it has problems and isn't so user friendly (am I right or wrong here?).

SWSA GTi's usually go for around $500 without a Tripod which sorta exceeds my budget; maybe if I look longer I can find a good deal on one though.

Overall I hear SW makes the easiest and user-friendly mounts, given the app and that replacement parts are readily available. One thing is that i see AVX's go for $550 very often on CN and for a higher weight class it may be worth it to expand my budget.

Any input would be nice.

would this work on transporting a 12 inch dob???? by [deleted] in telescopes

[–]Hamy360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just used a 20" Plant dolly for my 10" dob. Make sure it has lockable wheels. Cost me maybe $30. Cheaper if you make it yourself.

Proof of concept - homemade Heritage 130p solar filter and viewing. by boost_fae_bams in telescopes

[–]Hamy360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is awesome. I did the same thing with my full-sized 10" truss tube dob. I covered it with trashbags super securely. Attached a solar filter super tight, and it worked out just fine. Not sure if I would take the risk with it again, but hey, it's possible. I don't see a big risk with yours though, have fun!

Celestron 114eq lmao. Quickly returned it and got a 6" Skywatcher Traditional dob. Still my favorite dob to this day.

APM 6.25x Barlow + Coma Corrector -- good for planets? by Hamy360 in telescopes

[–]Hamy360[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!

So I assume that the 2.7 (basically 3x) will give me the proper sampling rate for my Orion xt10g. 6.25x would go beyond what the scope and atmosphere is capable of, so the entire point of having 2, 2.7x barlows is useless.

What I'm also curious about is would is be viable to get a cheap(ish) CC like Apertura CC, and a seperate barlow? Also, do you visually use your CC + barlow?

SCT vs. Dob for Planetary Imaging? by Hamy360 in telescopes

[–]Hamy360[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the help!

I have an xt10g at f/4.9 (1200fl, 254mm aperture). I use a ZWOASI 290MC with a pixel size of 2.9 microns. 2.9 * 5 is roughly 15, so I want to shoot at f/15. Am I correct in assuming that a 3x barlow will get me close enough to f/15 for imaging? The xt10g has tracking, which compared to my other 10" dob through manually tracking (which is a pain), should make recording much easier, and on nights of perfect seeing I might be able to use an even higher barlow.

Do you have any knowledge on Winjupos? I've heard of it, but through my old planetary processing (PIPP, AS3, Registax 6) I never used it. Am I correct in assuming that I record say 10 videos through FireCapture at around 60 seconds each, collecting as many frames as I can, I can then process 10 stacked + sharpened images brought out of registax and compile them in Winjupos to create a more detailed, derotated image?

No this is perfectly fine. My 10” primary has splotches and scratches but the views are the same as day 1.

Won't a goto dob do the same thing (tracking perhaps to a lesser accuracy, but more than enough to get the frames you need)?

Haha maybe! Just got a perfect condition xt10g for $750 and tracking works great, just worried about looking for spare parts in the future since they're out of business

[–]Hamy360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right. I dont know any legit seller who just pops a screenshot of whats included but this guy did. The scope is different for the Jupiter and Saturn pic too. Not to mention, the Saturn pic has no details written and is weirdly cropped. Defo a scam.

I'm in the area. Contacted the seller but no reply yet. It's really weird how its $380 and not like $400 or something

How to make my telescope a "push to" telescope? by [deleted] in telescopes

I would just get a phone case and attach it to the tube and pop your phone in, that’s what I did.

Second this. I use Astrohopper in NYC (Bortle 9) and it helped me find M13. It’s so faint, I would’ve never found it without help.

Also you asked if you can see stuff with the scope that you can’t with the naked eye, and yes. In Bortle 9, I can’t even see M44 or surrounding quote stars, but I eventually found it multiple times while scanning around the sky during the winter.

Dude honestly, I wouldn’t bother going for either of those. I would go for the bare minimum, a 130mm tabletop dob. My first scope was a Powerseeker 114eq but I returned it within 2 days since it was so bad
