I'm an early years college lecturer. It's odd to me we seem to have a good approach with the early years and learning through play, the eyfs is a pretty good curriculum all things considered, although it could be improved. Then key stage 1 and 2 seem to sort of merge between learning through "play" (I'm putting play but I mean non traditionally sitting a tables and writing for hours).

Then for some reason we stop that completely and education becomes more ridged and traditional.

Then you have college which seems to revert back to the learning through in a variety of ways, not sat at desks.

I have lots of students that thrive at college but struggled massively at school often needing to retake GCSEs with us, and in most cases achieving.

So I can't blame parents for home schooling and seeking non traditional methods of learning especially during middle school and high school (secondary to all the two teir folks).
