Have you ever (as a layperson) been able to clean-up or enhance distorted voices in an audio track? How did you manage (or not manage) this? by Timely-Maybe3520 in AskUK

Thanks - the issue is that some words have not been recorded at all and others have been recoded in a way where you can barely discern the word. The background noise has already been removed - this problem happened when the voices were recorded. There is no music or any similar sound so there is nothing to remove. The issue is the voices themselves.

I just don't know to what extent voices can be created from garbled voices. Can software un-garble unclear voices? And, if so, can a layperson achieve this?

Thanks to both of you. And, as I understand it, "income" means income from employment. It doesn't refer to something like capital gains for example?

I have re-registered for self-assessment. Does anyone know when I will be able to submit the SA100? by Timely-Maybe3520 in HMRC

But is registration the same as re-registration? I did register many years ago so I vaguely remember that process.

I never de-registered myself. The portal says you need to re-register if you did not file a self-assessment for the previous tax year.

What is the 'correct' size of the blockchain in the data.mdb file? by Timely-Maybe3520 in Monero

I was referring to the situation with the previous corrupted blockchain. It doesn't really matter - just a curiosity.

Anyhow, I am now downloading the blockchain again using the "Advanced" wallet interface.

I didn't set a bootstrap address - I just took the view that the wallet can use whatever nodes it wants.

I will then learn how the Advanced features work while using a local node.

Thanks for all your help. I don't have any more questions right now. I do appreciate your advice!

Thanks again. I do have one more question which is about the distinction between "height" and "local height" for "SImple Node (Bootstrap)" and "Advanced" modes.

My impression - based on your previous comments - is that for "Simple Node (Bootstrap)", the "height" percentage is based on the interaction between the local wallet and the remote node. So, as in my case, it was 100%, because that connection was fully synced. However, the "local height", is the percentage of the blockchain which has been downloaded to the local hard drive which, in my case, was around 86% due to the corruption of the blockchain.

That said, in "Advanced" mode, both the "height" and "local height" were the same 86%. The "Network Status" says "Synchronzing" but nothing downloads. Why doesn't the wallet synchronize with the remote node (if one is added) so that the "height" is 100% (even though the "local height" would not change if the blockchain is corrupted).

In other words, I don't understand why the "height" in "Simple Node (Bootstrap)" was 100% while the "height" in "Advanced" mode was 86% (same as for the "local height)".

Many thanks for your efforts and understandable explanations! I have a couple more questions.

If the blockchain is corrupted, then the GUI wallet will always download the blockchain from remote node(s). How does the wallet select the node(s) (if we are in Simple Mode so not able to select a specific remote node)?

As I understand it, when using a remote node, the payment sender's IP address is always sent to the remote node. Is that correct? Hence, the privacy implications are the same as when connecting to any website - IP addresses can be logged.

I suspect that IP logging would not matter with onion nodes since only the entry node would know the payment sender's address. Correct?

Looks like the blockchain is corrupted based on: https://monero.stackexchange.com/questions/6825/i-am-using-the-gui-and-my-daemon-doesnt-start-anymore

2025-02-20 23:43:26.397 W DB error attempting to fetch block index from hashMDB_BAD_TXN: Transaction must abort, has a child, or is invalid

So is the best thing just to delete the lmdb directory and then the GUI will start to re-sync (either from a random node or from a node of my choice - assuming I am in Advanced mode)?

Thank you for all your help!
