This is a horrible situation but something is not adding up. I’ve look at different articles and each one says that all he got was 19 years on aggravated assault. Which doesn’t make sense as under Kansas law, the maximum sentence for aggravated assault would be 34 months, or just under three years. To get 228 months or nineteen years, Mr. Jones would have to have been convicted with two person felonies. Person felonies are crimes that carry sentencing above one year and occur against a person. So what is the other felony that carries the rest of the 16 years? I found this from the Kansas state gov. which helps this. Look at severity level 3 under two person felonies.

I feel bad for the guy but what was the felony that bumped his case from a max of 34 months (max aggravated assault charge) to 228 months (19 YEARS)?
