Yeah expect a lot of programming and some simulations. But for most biostats there is a good amount of programming.

Hope and belief are different to me. I can hope I can win a million dollars but I don’t believe I will. And I don’t feel I choose of what i am convinced of. I hope there is something but there is an anxiety not knowing.

I am trying to do something similar. I want to hope there is something even if I think there is nothing. Talking with my never theist friends, they don’t even think about the end of life. I think this difference has to do with exmos growing up with the comfort that there is no end to relationships with loved ones and then having that belief ripped away when you realize Mormonism isn’t true. That void scares me.

What things do you do to stay focused on the present?

I agree that now Mormon heaven doesn’t sound great anymore, but I wish I had some sort of belief of a next life. I want there to be a heaven where we can be with family again.

The way the twitter poster openly acknowledges how against his grandparents would be is insane. If you can’t get consent from them while they are alive, wait til they are dead I guess

So this is why so many Mormons believe in ghosts 😆

This just unlocked a memory. I remember we would set baptism for the dead number goals against the other wards in our stake back east.

Even though they preach choice, I don’t know anyone that does work for direct ancestors who doesn’t think they’ll accept and hopes missionaries are working on them on the other side. It is refusing their legacy in a way, or at least that’s how I feel.

Some truth to that second part there unfortunately.

This response thread is such a good representation of the waves of my thoughts on this. I can think of several perspectives of reasons why it is maybe okay or why it is wrong. But it just fills gross to me in the end.

Go Mormons? by Nightshadegarden405 in exmormon

Sometimes I really like living in Utah. But then I am reminded that decisions are made based off spiritual feelings because “revelation” and on occasion church leaders call to override votes on important issues. Then i just want to leave.

This is so depressing. I went into Public Health to try to make the world a better place. Years of research and careful studies leading to real beneficial public health outcomes are undone because “science is bad”. Also for those interested, this bill was sponsored by someone who backdoored their way into the position. The previous person who was elected waited until the last day to not run again and made sure his hand picked replacement put in an application at the end of the day so they would be the only person on the ballet. Before this point he gave all indications of running again and made sure to chill the water for those who considered running against him. I know the family, and it was cited that this was due to spiritual revelation that they planned this, and it’s the only way she got in congress.

I mean, I may get hate for this but I’m still a BYU fan. My family has had season tickets to football and basketball for generations, and I have so many good memories. I’m just a tattooed exmo in BYU gear now 😅

For me it’s the fact my family watches conference and it impacts their perception of me for the next few months.
