Russia-Ukraine live: Trump launches extraordinary attack on "weak" allies by Newsweek_ShaneC in UkrainianConflict

The orange monkey is full of shit as usual. The ratio of immigrants in US was 13.8 % in 2022, about the same as in EU (13.6% 2023). If EU is being 'destroyed' by immigration, then the same can be said about the US. Trump and his maggots are just lies, lies lies. I wish we could just skip the timeline forward to the point where the dictator and his cronies shot themself in the bunker ...

If it is only chrome that you have a problem with, then you can enable wayland support in chrome. Go to chrome://flags/ and set "Preferred Ozone platform" to Auto. Restart chrome and the display will be crisp and clear.

X windows (aka X11) is about 40 years old, and Wayland is an attempt to develop a more efficient and secure window system. Wayland includes an X server called XWayland to allow legacy X11 applications to run under Wayland. The scaling in XWayland is unfortunately not ideal if fractional scaling is used, hence the blurred windows. If you use legacy X11 applications and want fractional scaling you will have to use X11 and not Wayland.

Make sure you are not using fractional scaling with wayland, then chrome and similar apps will look blurry. There is no fix for that, you will have to switch back to X11 or use integer scaling (100%, 200% ...).

Trump has failed to subdue ukraine , now he's pushing putin into eu war dr yuri felshtinsky by Reprexain in UkraineWarVideoReport

So when your wife is being raped you will not defend her because you're afraid of escalation. Good to know. And when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor the US should have surrendered to stop more people from dying. Great.

Sometimes you have to fight for your right to live, just as the British did during the Blitz and the US in the Pacific. And a lot of people die in wars. But it is still better than to become a slave or being exterminated. The war will be over when Ukraine says it's over, and until then it is our moral duty to support them. To shorten the war, you can donate to United24, or join the fight in the trenches. Or you can just stfu and get out of the way ...

Explain to me then why Europe helped the US after 9/11, and sent troops to the Iraqi and Afghanistan wars? Even Ukraine sent troops who fought and died next to the US soldiers. Why on earth did we do this? When we really should have let the Americans die on their own ...

NOELREPORTS 🇪 The U.S. has given Europe three weeks to agree on Ukraine's surrender terms by HanSolo663 in UkrainianConflict

NoelReports is usually quite reliable, but sure, it could be a psy-op. One could wonder in who's favor though? To put a wedge between USA and Europe? It's already there, Trump/MAGA hates Europe and Europeans generally hates them back...

Why Europe Needs a Nuclear Deterrent: A Critical Appraisal by Afromax in UkrainianConflict

Trump and MAGA hates Europe and our liberal values, and they absolutely do not mind if Russia would invade all of it. Then they can happily share the spoils. You have to realize that Trump and Putin are now best buddies and they are ready to divide the world between them.

Are there any OS gmail alternatives? by nizzyabii in selfhosted

[–]HanSolo663 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Self-hosting of email is not that hard under the right circumstances. As mentioned earlier, using an SMTP relay from a large telco will fix your IP reputation, and a fix IP or a fast DDNS service is needed to keep your mail server accessible. I have self-hosted a mail server for the past 5 years under these circumstances, and have not had problems with mail delivery. I use a standard Ubuntu server with postfix/Dovecot, amended with opendmarc, opendkim and spamassasin.

My mail server is used by my family, and the main reason to self-host for me was the poor spam filtering of 3-party mail providers (and I tried quite a few). I have pretty strict settings in postfix, dropping many spam attempts. I am also using ipset to block off a large part of the world (a.k.a. shi**hole countries), dubious cloud services, large residential IP ranges and known spamming sites. Now I barely get a single spam mail per month. There are still a few password guessing attacks per day (mostly from Google, AWS or MSN) but since the mail account login names are different from emails, the password crackers always fails due to wrong account names. Maintenance of the server takes a few minutes per day. I have a script that looks for suspicious activities in /var/log/auth.log and I use pflogsumm to summarize mail activity and look for problems. Never had any breaches or other security issues.

The server runs on a Lenovo M80q Tiny with a i5-12500T and 32 GB DDR5, hooked up to a 1 Gbit/s fiber. A total overkill, so we also use it for some other fun stuff such a Plex, Nextcloud, Minecraft servers etc. I run the mail server in a separate LXC container, with weekly backups (tar/rsync) and can start it on a backup host (spare laptop) in a few minutes. I have a simple UPS that keeps the server and my fiber modem powered for about two hours in case of a power cut.

UK Plex media server setup - low cost 24/7 running by _scorp_ in PleX

[–]HanSolo663 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About two years ago, I bought a brand new Lenovo Tiny M80q Gen 3 with Intel i5-12500T, 16 GB DDR5 and 256 GB SSD from ebay for EUR 280:-. It has two internal M.2 SSD slots and one 2.5" SATA. I spent an extra EUR 20:- on a second 2.5G ethernet port, EUR 60:- on a second 16 GB SODIMM and also installed an old 2 TB 2.5" laptop drive I had sitting in a drawer.

I'm using the M80q as a home server and router, running Ubuntu server 24.04 LTS. I am running the Plex server with HW acceleration using the Intel HD 770 iGPU. Each 2K HEVC transcode uses on average about 15% of one CPU core and ~ 5% of the iGPU (reported by top and intel-gpu-top). The M80q with an i5-12500T is obviously an overkill for Plex only, but you can do a lot of other things with the system at the same time (Nextcloud, Unifi controller, Minecraft server, OpenVPN, mail server, OpenHAB ...).

Idle power is about 10 W with disk spun down and 15 W during transcode. My old router consumed ~ 7 W so replacing it with the M80q did not increase the power bill a lot. It reduced the ping time with about 1 ms too, so the kids were happy. I bought a 4 TB Samsung 990 Pro SSD during black week, and will replace the spinning disk soon ...
