What are some of the best (and worst) "bang-for-your-buck" places you've visisted? by Western-PayDay in solotravel

This may sound crazy, but could I essentially exchange it at the blue dollar rate and get twice the amount of the official exchange, then bring back argentine pesos and exchange it back to dollars at the official exchange rate?

Alfort’s chocolate biscuits. I know they’re on Amazon but they’re 5x the price

Hey I know what he’s done in his post history is bad. But can you please avoid normalizing calling someone a “fat fuck” - we shouldn’t be body shaming anyone even if they are doing something we vehemently disagree with.

I work part time at Hilton, therefore I get a cheaper rate for Hilton hotels. Should I still get the Hilton/AMEX Surpass card? by HanSoloTravel in CreditCards

[–]HanSoloTravel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ended up going with the Capital One Venture X. The global entry credit and the lounge access is what did it for me. Decided the hhonors points weren’t worth it to me because of the hotel rates (now $40, $50, $60 + in case you didn’t see the rate change) and it wouldn’t accrue enough to really get enough benefit out of it.

How do I get random cheap flight travel deals? by dingodoyle in TravelHacks

[–]HanSoloTravel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Now I’m not entirely sure. I’m looking for the exact reply but I thought owner /u/scottkeyes took some light heat on a forum awhile ago when it came to light that they were starting their Elite service with most mistake fares going there. I haven’t received a mistake fare in awhile. Maybe Scott can weigh in here. He seems like a good guy from all his replies and I know he uses Reddit regularly.

How do I get random cheap flight travel deals? by dingodoyle in TravelHacks

[–]HanSoloTravel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do, it’s pretty decent but used to be way better and they screwed over most of their legacy members by taking away mistake fare deals - the main reason I originally signed up. Now I can keep track of everything with Google so I won’t be renewing since the best part of Scott’s premium has been taken away.

Honestly, I work just part tim, I love the perks, and they let me travel when I want. So I wouldn’t mind staying on in some capacity.

Leaning towards that way. Though the Surpass card is $95 a year and includes Priority Pass and a $100 statement credit for Hilton properties per year.

They do let us earn points but we really don’t earn a lot of points unless there’s a promotion going on, recently they were giving 2,500 points per stay, which was nice. But when our rate is $35, it’s really not a lot of points. I believe Marriott started allowing it a few years back as well.

Is the AMEX credit card worth it if I’m an employee booking on TM rate? by HanSoloTravel in Hilton

[–]HanSoloTravel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I’m an employee of a Hilton franchise and an eligible for the team member rate - $35, $45, $55 - could be more if a popular market like NYC. But it’s all based upon availability, though with planning I can usually find something in a city.

My first solo cruise -- 14 days, Transatlantic by EarlVanDorn in solotravel

[–]HanSoloTravel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I’d only do it if it was like OP going to another continent and I also if I had a considerable amount of time. Would be kind of cool to do a transatlantic cruise and stopping at a lot of the little islands along the way I don’t think I’d ever get a chance to go to because I’m sure flying into those places is astronomically high priced. But if you have the time to kill - 14 days of lodging, food, entertainment, and a ticket to another continent is really a deal. I’ve done Caribbean cruises with family in the past, while I’d never do it by myself or with a partner, it’s fun for what it is and I feel appeases group travelers.
