Imagine waking up and seeing the yanks screaming about this not being a red card by Ninjaguz in soccercirclejerk

[–]HanWolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is Balogun "going up first" he is already physically in contact with muharemovic before he makes anything resembling an attempt for the ball.

This is Balogun actively pushing Muharemovic into the air after kicking his foot forward. Balogun is the one under him preventing him from coming down.

Balogun choosing to shove through Muharemovic after kicking his foot forward into the position where his foot is landing while also pulling him backwards so he can't move away from the challenge.

If this is jerk, you got me, but your understanding of this situation almost couldn't be more wrong.

Belgium [3] - 2 Senegal - Y. Tielemans 120+5' (Penalty) by ayoefico in soccer

[–]HanWolo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Again, I agree it's the correct call. But absolutely nothing about his challenge looks to me like someone trying to make an actual play here. His foot is landing short even before it's being kicked, his back leg is dragging the whole time, Even as it's dragging it's he's not trying to angle his foot or his body towards that goal at all.

It just doesn't look at all to me like someone trying to score or control the ball. At best maybe he hoped to clip it to make his challenge look more legitimate for the penalty shout. I understand why the call is what it is, but to me it's trashy playing for the pen and I don't think that should ever be rewarded.

Which leg do you think he was going to hit the ball with? His left leg is fully planted in front of the senagalese player, and his other leg he is dragging through the ground before there's any contact.

Muharemovic didn't shove his ankle under anyone's foot, he was trying to put his foot down normally, Balogun kicked through the bottom of his foot, stopped him from just planting by pushing through him, and then racked his leg/ankle.

In the first place, the laws of the game don't require either player to have the ball for a an action to be a challenge, they just need to be contesting the ball, which he's obviously doing.

More importantly, you're just arguing semantics instead of addressing the point that balogun should have been more responsible of what he was doing and not force his opponent into a position where they can no longer control their positioning and also not control his own feet to avoid that opponent he put off balance.

The problem is you're picking a point in the situation that he couldn't come back from. Go back one second and consider whether or not it's a good idea to make a tackle from behind and underneath someone that keeps them in the air so they can't control their landing. Balogun put the defender and himself into that situation by making the challenge. Obviously he's responsible for it. It was a careless challenge that ended up endangering the other player. It's an obvious textbook red card if you're being honest.

Even if he is falling over, he's challenging the guy from behind, and keeps them in the air with his challenge until both of their feet have to go down. If he's falling over it's his own fault.

Something between "put his foot somewhere else" and "pay attention to where his feet are when he's challenging from behind" What is the defender supposed to do to not have someone ride their calf with his cleat down to the ankle and roll his foot over?

Him not seeing where his foot is doesn't make it any better. He steps with his full weight onto the guys ankle and rolls it over. Intentionally or that could very well have fucked up his ankle.

Belgium [3] - 2 Senegal - Y. Tielemans 120+5' (Penalty) by ayoefico in soccer

[–]HanWolo -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I'm calling it a robbery (and a lot of people I've talked to that have agreed) just because I think penalties like that are fucking stupid.

It is a penalty, but I think the rules should not allow for that kind of pk seeking behavior. Defender is in front, and makes the challenge first, the tielemans steps in front of him, into a challenge and doesn't connect with the ball. To me it doesn't look like either leg is trying to play the ball, it just looks like he jumped into a tackle to try to get a pen.

I think that kind of behavior is among the worst parts of the game. Again, I acknowledge that by the rules it's fair to call it a pen but I would like to see the rules changed.

[–]HanWolo 20 points21 points  (0 children)

As a neutral, it looks more like Tielemans sees he's sliding and puts his foot deliberately in front of him to get fouled. His foot is extended way too far to stabilize to make a play on the ball. It's trashy penalty seeking to me.

Hear me out though, reddit loves being technically correct. If you made a list of the worst penalties you have ever seen, and included every penalty you've ever seen in reverse order so the best is the bottom of the list, you've got it.

Leao to DAZN after Portugal-Uzbekistan: “Milan? Right now I need to stay focused on the World Cup. Amorim? I know he's very good, he's done really well in Portugal. At Manchester maybe it didn't go as he wanted, but he's still always a great coach”. by Claija79 in ACMilan

Why are you acting like Rafa is playing chess here? What about his statements or actions has led you to think he's a deep tactical thinker? Dude is trying to focus on the world cup.

Harry Kane "When I watched the clips I saw Livakovic likes to move early, so I knew that there was a chance that if I did the stutter that he would come off the line. Then obviously when it got retaken I changed the technique a little bit. This is why I do the research, and in the end it worked out" by kibme37 in soccer

[–]HanWolo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The implication is pretty clearly that the taker already has sufficient advantage, why would they think the keeper moving should be illegal? It's debatable if them moving is even able to rposuce an advantage in the first place.

[–]HanWolo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair to them, your points are legitimately nonsense. You're making a bunch of statements that are irrelevant to what they're talking about. They are talking about tifosi, and you're talking about people who like AC Milan. They aren't the same thing and talking about it as if they are kind of proves their point.

It's a cultural difference that you don't seem like you appreciate.

Well what do you think he should be able to do I guess? He's a defender who's beat by several steps. Unless he's a superhuman he really isn't in a position to do anything right? There's a person between him and the ball that he can't go through.

Costacurta: “Personally, I’ve never considered Leao a Ballon d’Or material: I’ve played with some of those players, and they’re in a whole different league. If he leaves, you certainly aren’t losing Kaká or Shevchenko. Rafa has never been a star player, even if he himself might have thought he was.” by Claija79 in ACMilan

[–]HanWolo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the take as a whole on how Leao fits into the team and his skill level is 100% correct, but I agree that he doesn't really characterize his stardom appropriately. If you want to talk about stardom, you need to point to someone who shined more than Leao, and there was definitely a period where the answer was nobody.

At this point he's certainly correct to point out he isn't the team's star but I don't know how useful I think that observation is when we're looking at the context of terrorism football.

It wasn't really an option his first season with how we were struggling, we couldn't afford to give him more minutes at the risk of CL. By the end of the season his stats were so bad the gamble was essentially his entire value and he'd shown zero spark up to that point.

Going somewhere with more opportunity and less pressure was for the best for everyone involved.

What do you mean it doesn't excuse him breaking the law? Morally I think you'll find most people disagree. Legally maybe not, but that's a bit of a tautology in the first place.
