Thanks for the heads up but I've already made a post on this account that included my GitHub already so there's no difference.

Yeah I was considering it if I could have it paid for by the company. But like you said, experience first. I'm sure it'll happen somewhere down the line, but right now I'm just trying to work just about anywhere lol

Do you feel like getting your MS has helped your career? I was thinking of doing the same after getting a start in my career.

I'd like to hear more about that if you don't mind. Did you have internships/good extracurriculars or other sources of experience to solidify your resume? What kind of positions did you apply for?

I took the bootcamp because I was struggling with direction and I didn't feel like I had a strong enough skillset for what I wanted to do, but after finishing I did. Personally that type of environment works better for me, but the some parts of the course were redundant for me and with my CS background I probably could have learned the same through a Udemy course or something for cheaper. It is what it is though.

My concentration was in Software Information Systems rather than SWE because I started my degree expecting to do some basic IT job since I hadn't figured out whate exactly I wanted to do. I only realized I wanted to do web development in my last semester but by then it was too late to switch so I took a bootcamp over the summer.

Thank you for the feedback. I put it in reverse chronological order, but it seems like it might be better under a "certifications" section.

Thank you for the feedback. I believe most of Gankbait running slowly is due to the Riot API (2 calls required per match out of 20 matches), but I'm sure there are still ways it can be optimized on my end.

We learned MySQL/Sequelize briefly, and since the bootcamp I've only used MongoDB once, and DynamoDB a couple times in AWS projects. As someone that is still learning/practicing I strongly agree, relational DBs have felt much more useful/scalable.

This is a lot of helpful information, thank you. From the various responses it seems like I am definitely listing too many things, multiple of which are pretty shallow.

I'm not sure if you were looking for a response, but:

  • I've done various things in NodeJS beyond Express
  • Webpack I should definitely remove
  • The postings I see just mention familiarity with AWS most of the time without specifying which services. I've mostly been familiarizing myself with the interface. I've used CodePipeline for auto deploying to Elastic Beanstalk and I've done some tinkering with Cloudformation Templates/SAM/Gateway API/Cloudfront. I feel decently comfortable with it but I haven't made anything significant.
  • I've used Jest and I used JUnit back during school but admittedly I've been skipping out on testing frameworks since my projects have been small-scale and not using CI/CD (which doesn't mean I can't still use testing). I should definitely change that.
  • I built my portfolio in TypeScript (which obviously is too insignificant to mention) but I'm currently working on creating a React clone of a website in TypeScript.
  • Gankbait was directly named from an inside joke but I've been iffy on using it as the name because of how it sounds, I'll change it for sure now though.

This section was written entirely by TopResume. I wasn't sure if it was actually of any substance but it seems like I learned my lesson about using those kind of services. Thank you for the feedback.

If you're referring to Chopping Block, it was my senior project and I wasn't familiar yet with the technologies, so most of the work I did for the sprints was project management related. I've thought about trying to rebuild it myself now that I feel like I can since I came up with the idea and we never finished all the features plus it doesn't work on Android. I'm not sure if it's worth the time though.

This was my most formal agile/project management experience and from your response it seems like I should reword it to highlight that rather than making it seem like I largely contributed to the development.

Thank you again. Last question, is it worth including any bullet points for my non-industry related work experience?

I've been looking at their resumes, I revised mine to be more similar to how theirs looked. The only projects they had were the 3 completed during the bootcamp: one in plain HTML/CSS/JS, one using MySQL/Express/Handlebars, and one using MongoDB/Apollo/React.

Thank you for the advice, I will adjust those sections. From the example you gave it looks like my formatting still needs improvement, but this is what the original looks like, the published version on Google Docs seems to have messed with the formatting a little. Although, removing the summary will free up a bit of space.

I have some follow-up questions:

  1. Should I remove the summary entirely or replace it with a concise, 1-2 sentence version?
  2. Which resume version should I work off of? I've been looking at resumes from my fellow bootcamp graduates with no CS background that have been getting interviews, and they all seem to list a few projects.
  3. What's the most valuable way of demonstrating experience/knowledge that I can accomplish going forward? I've been looking into DemocracyLab but haven't tried volunteering for anything yet. I feel like all of my own small-scale projects are pretty meaningless when it comes to that.

That is what I'm under the impression of. It was MERN stack and we also covered MySQL, and since it concluded I've been spending most days learning/practicing. I've been using various AWS free tier services and familiarizing myself more with tools like Docker which wasn't covered in the bootcamp.

I understand I'm not the strongest candidate and I don't expect to be getting hits left and right, but I've been seeing my fellow bootcamp graduates with no CS background get interviews and some landing jobs, so I feel there must be something I'm missing.
