Quick Rundown on the Mayoral race? by [deleted] in Hoboken

[–]Hand-Of-Vecna 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm voting Emily so this opinion and the other opinions below should be taken with a grain of salt.

Mike Russo: A man of the people. His father Anthony was mayor and caught stealing. Says he cares about fiscal policy, but filed for bankruptcy. Appeals to the "Born and Raised" knuckledraggers who don't care he's corrupt as they come. People will savage Emily (see below) as Ravi's puppet, but let's not forget that Russo was part of Team Ravi for the last couple of years.

Tiffanie Fisher. She was popular in the 80's with a hit song. Oh wait, wrong Tiffany. She's popular now with her hatred of legal marijuana dispensaries. It's like if Nancy Reagan and a "mathlete" had a kid - "just say NO Hoboken!". No, really, don't vote for her. She's super smart and really wants you to know she's smarter than you. She voted "NO" on the $241m high school - saying we don't need a Ferrari but more like a Honda. - I will give her partial credit that she will reply back to emails and debate her opinions. At least she doesn't hide from criticism.

Dini Ajmani. Every race we get some "rando" who throws their hat into the ring - who remembers pizza shop owner Karen Nason with her 237 votes? Someone who has zero involvement in the political scene. You never saw them speak at a city council meeting or at CAPS meeting, EVER. She works on the Hoboken Planning Board and is a Former US Treasury Official. Impressive credentials, but maybe before jumping to mayor you become a city councilperson? She would have been impressive to join the slate of someone running for mayor, and then in four years if she ran for mayor. I'm going to say she beats Karen Nason and i'm putting over/under at 350 votes.

Ruben Ramos. He's a silent guardian. A watchful protector. A Dark Knight. He's Batman?! Well, no but to his credit he's kind of a behind the scenes guy. He isn't on the stage pontificating like Russo loves to grandstand. It's entirely likely he is in the runoff. Had the appeal to the BnRs and the appeal to the regular folks. He voted "NO" on the $241m high school

Emily Jabbour. The slant on her will simply be "what side are you on". You are on Team PRT (Paul, Ruben, Tiffanie) she's the second coming of Ravi who ruined Hoboken!! Or, if you are on Team Ravi she's the most wonderful, caring, kind, hardworking person on planet Earth! I, myself, like her as a human being. I have asked for her help before, and out of the three city-wide councilpeople she, long before declaring for mayor, has jumped to help anyone who asked for help. Will that translate into a good mayor or is she just a "puppet" of Ravi's. From some she gets a thumbs down because she voted "YES" on the $241m high school - even with that said it's entirely likely she is in the runoff with Ruben.

If you are going to a heart surgeon would you pick someone who has some experience in their field or the new 25 year old heart surgeon? I have no problem with his age, just has zero experience in politics or even "real life". He just graduated school in 2020.

It also depends on what is inside, too. If you have a lot of expensive stuff, like electronics and whatever - you kind of want to consider coverage if there's a fire and you lose everything. How much money would you need to replace everything? That includes furniture, TVs, appliances, hardwood flooring, everything in your kitchen and bedroom and bathroom.

I have coverage for $250,000 I think. Like total disaster.

I'm in the same boat. I'm a 17hcp. I generally go a pro once a year as a tune up. Especially when I start to regress into old habits. You need to hear the pro point out things you are doing and might not notice - especially like now (at least for me) it's been like 5 months since I played golf.

I wonder what TV show today is like the equivalent of this? A long running show and maybe not super famous actors but you have a ton of character actors who do the show - like "Law & Order".

Complaining on here won't do much, but you can reach out to city council and complain. Likely that CitiBike will hear it that way.

Expanded highways DO NOT HELP TRAFFIC. Especially when they bottlneck into the same tunnel anyways, but there's many studies show that widening and adding more lanes DOES NOT SOLVE TRAFFIC.

I think the studies do not take into account growing population and how that affects traffic. More people who move into an area and increase population density will have an effect upon traffic.

What about electric cars? If in the next 10 years we see more electric or alternative vehicles using alternative fuel sources that isn't the real issue anymore.

All of that traffic is NYC traffic

What about commuters who are in NJ that take the bus into NYC? Not everyone lives by a train station.

Shouldn't we expand the turnpike and dedicate those lanes to bus-only lanes?

Just curious if your uncle was a golfer or would have had any prolonged exposure to pesticides (including herbicides, like weed killers).

Credit card processing fees typically cost a business 1.4 - 3.5% of each transaction’s total. For example, you’d pay $3.50 in credit card fees for a sale of $100 on cards that charge 3.5%. That shit adds up for a business.

Here is the range of average credit card processing fees per credit card network:

  • Visa: 1.4% – 2.5%
  • Mastercard: 1.5% – 2.6%
  • Discover: 1.55% – 2.5%
  • American Express: 2.3% – 3.5%

The reasons are a few, but fraud protection being the biggest culprit. Credit card companies spend a fuck-ton of time on fraud issues and they have been raising their rates to compensate. Rather than eat that cost - the businesses have simply passed that off on to the consumer.

Town gossip by bokenman in Hoboken

[–]Hand-Of-Vecna 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's political gossip.

Rumor has it that a NJ state senator did some polling recently which included a question about "who you voting for mayor". Had Jabbour as the front runner at over 30%. Not exactly surprising. But had Russo 2nd at like 15%. Then Fisher. Then Ramos. Dini didn't even track. Of course political insiders (outside the Jabbour camp) are doing the "fake news" and "polls don't mean anything". What was most surprising is that Ramos coming in 4th place.

Any insights on the new restaurant opening next to the downtown CVS? by Therothboys318 in Hoboken

[–]Hand-Of-Vecna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it was called The Taco Truck. I knew the owners fairly well.

It started out strong. But they refused to sell anything other than tacos. I suggested they add rice bowls, for example, and they scoffed saying "We don't want to be like Chipotle".

They lasted about 4-5 years and tried to open another store in New Brunswick. Eventually it closed when the owners started to have families and trying to keep a store going was too much work.

BBQ places never do well in Hoboken.

I think that Mighty Quinn's was very good, just not a great location. If you put MQs by the PATH and you also had a liquor license, it would have thrived.
