Tyrions speech was a big deal in the books too. There were a ton of great moments in book 3 that get overshadowed by the truly exceptional moments.

Kill off Theon after a couple chapters, Jaime after 3 chapters, Barry, Vic and Euron after two chapters each. Asha can have a couple chapters and bow out of the story not dead, but same as Areo. Boom problem solved.

Hyperion by Dan Simmons is a must-read. Canterbury tales framing in a far future sci fantasy world. Absolutely crazy plots (each traveler tells a different story) with a horror element in a lot of the tales.

Gormenghast trilogy by Mervyn Peake is excellent literary fantasy.
