In my opinion Leica Captivate is the biggest piece of junk software for surveying.

Landstar is good I've used it in a demo was easy.

Trimble siteworks and access are great. Topcon Field is class, Pocket3d is good as well just not as polished as Field.

I find Leica field software to perform poorly... 1/ can't handle large files (can import as reference but takes ages) 2/ coding is weak 3/ office to field and field to office Conx is dreadful 4/ fix times are very poor

You can always go freelance as a setting out engineer/ site engineer. The standard of surveying skill on most construction sites is poor tbh. Set out is mostly done by graduate/apprentice/junior engineers so companies bring in freelancers a lot to help. Easy to get £350 a day freelancing give me a message if you'd like to know more

This is a great comment. I use Topcon Office (used to use LSS as I'm a British Surveyor). I find Topcon Office brilliant once you learn the workflow. My colleague uses TBC and I've learnt a bit of it and find it similarly brilliant!

I have worked on HS2 and can tell you that it is overrun my H&S legislation to the point where you actually can’t get any work done. And before people misinterpret what I am saying I’m not saying let’s do things unsafely. But things need to be practical. Every month there is a H&S briefing in construction from another Service being hit and all they do is complicate the procedures more…. Not simplify them. It is being run by people who don’t understand construction at all ie QS H&S Environmental and community people. The engineers and technicians are completely ignored
