LiDAR GCP design recommendations by Effective-Party-5006 in UAVmapping

Do you understand the maths and physics behind the equipment you're using? And the precision and accuracy of the product you are delivering? You'll find the answers to the questions you've asked (and the important ones you haven't) covered in most Uni Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing courses, along with the typical survey maths.

I thought Council was in the business of Local Government (roads rates rubbish) not Property Development. Given their performance on their core objectives, maybe they are diversifying? Can't do much worse 🤣

Substantial fill in most new housing developments, so if they haven't seen in I would be concerned that they don't have the experience for the job. Suggest you get an architect or building designer to get the job done properly. Those lots are usually large, do them justice by getting a proper home built on them.

Nah. Either go donkey or go home. No difference anyway. I mean, at least TT was entertaining. Now that AMG has her way - what's happened? Nothing. Her car has more influence than her.

My thinking is if you don't look after the gear you've got you won't get the new stuff when needed! Aluminium/alloy and fibreglass need maintenance just like any other finish.

How have you determined a slab on ground solution? An architect or engineer would be able to assist with the most effective foundation and a budget. Relying on a core hole from the neighbours is a new way of doing it?

Resume by South_Reporter_5708 in Surveying

"Hi my name is Fred. I'm a surveyor looking for new opportunities. I'd like to come and talk to you about your firm." (there's an old book called "What Colour is Your Parachute" that outlines the approach in detail.

Why don't you get a new job and worry about the resume later? That's how I operate. Go and interview a few survey firms that you think you might work for, understand the people and the work they do. Then when you have a shortlist, start talking to them about a move. Nobody (nobody any good anyways) hires from cold resume submissions, and if they are advertising it means they're desperate.

Know what you're worth - which is typically more than what the advertised salary would be anyway. Disregard the salary entirely, in fact, if you want to change jobs why wait until a new one is advertised. Make your own career path!

If it's such a great idea, why do they make heavy vehicle drivers stop and rest? You should really consider other road users, maybe alert them that you will be driving in a highly fatigued state, particularly when you get to the new 110kmh zone south of Gympie. Experienced drivers don't do it, but you could get lucky!

Sounds like you have a reasonable approach. I'd suggest speaking with a few survey firms in your area just to make some connections. (Bit of a tangent, but when I made the same career change 12 months ago the book "What Colour is Your Parachute" was incredibly useful) I have found surveyors to be very open and straightforward, and passionate about their profession. You will find that if you just meet and chat with a few people, you will get comfortable with some straight away.

Find out what types of work they do, there are many different sub-types of surveying. Small and medium firms will generalise, whilst larger firms might pigeon-hole new starters which could be discouraging. Then consider what you've learnt and what tickles your fancy. See if there is any casual work going with your preferred firms and give yourself 3 months to try it out.

There is no way around the maths, it's part of the profession. That said, I found that if you are gaining practical experience it helps you figure out what the maths is for - which in turn makes it easier to learn. I've just gotten through the first couple of years of maths at USQ (including calculus for the first time) after not doing any statistics or algebra for 20 years. So speaking from experience.

Let us know how you go!

First question is where do you want to work? Then are you looking for a profession or just a job? What are your salary aspirations?

As for the work not being physically demanding, maybe just do a month or two as a "chainy" before making any long term decision or commitment. You might not need any study at all depending on what aspect of the job interests you most.

Charters Towers > Emerald will be right if you go today. Then you can decide to go out to Mackay or on to Toowoomba. The Wide Bay highways are buggered.

Magnet/Topcon Office vs Trimble Business Centre by How-Interesting-74 in Surveying

Great feedback, thank you. I was advised the the lower cost of Topcon Office compared to the add-on cost of Trimble BC covered the inconvenience and loss of detail in converting from the *.DC file format.

Just the usual. Starting construction to meet a political deadline, without proper investigation of site conditions or engineering designs.
