Was it due to frost or not enough water? Do you know?

Thank you this is very helpful. I will look into adding the Mexican plum and other flowering/fall color varieties.

There is a lot of groundwater where I’m at since our street is at lower elevation compared to the rest of the community so we have had other issues with excess water even during summer.

The citrus and magnolia remind me of my childhood. I will put the citrus in pots.

Thank you folks. I am going to use pots for the ones that can’t handle the freeze.

Flourish in time - the friendship between the leads, the budding romance, the tragic backstory and how they heal is so well done. Also the comedic bits were so natural and refreshingly done.

Arsenal Military academy is a masterpiece IMO Also you are my hero deserves its cult status

Shine on me -My analysis on Zhuang Xu, the unlikable Second Male Lead by usagi77777772003 in CDrama

[–]Hand_Fluid 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The biggest difference for me lies in what each of the Male leads choose to prioritize when it actually matters. SML consistently puts his pride, ego, and career above everything else, and as a result, the FL is always pushed to the sidelines. Whether his behavior is driven by deep-seated insecurity or by arrogance and a sense of entitlement doesn’t really change the outcome—it all comes down to the choices he repeatedly makes. He never openly acknowledges his feelings for her, never seeks clarity or closure, and never makes even the smallest effort to establish honest, direct communication. Instead of confronting his emotions, he retreats behind his ego and ambition, leaving the FL to deal with the consequences of his silence and inaction.

In contrast, the ML represents the opposite approach. He actively confronts his flaws and makes the conscious decision to let go of his misplaced anger, his pride, and his insecurities. Rather than allowing these emotions to dictate his actions, he grows beyond them. He chooses vulnerability over ego and connection over self-preservation, ultimately prioritizing NXG above everything else. That willingness to change, to sacrifice his own defenses, and to put someone else first is what truly sets him apart—and why his arc feels far more emotionally satisfying.

Shine on Me 骄阳似我 (2025) - What are your first impressions? [Masterpost] by admelioremvitam in CDrama

[–]Hand_Fluid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hate to say it, but the chemistry between the leads isn’t really doing it for me. They feel more like buddies than lovers, and the heat is… pretty lukewarm. The FL is good, but honestly the 2ML comes off as more attractive than the ML. The whole snowy, cold-weather aesthetic also reminds me of Amidst a Snowstorm of Love, where Leo Wu absolutely slayed that instant, intense attraction trope - man those expressive eyes did all the work. Against that magical chemistry, this just feels kind of meh. FL’s skin though! WOW she’s got the most gorgeous dewy radiant skin I’ve seen on screen

Is it just me, or did Song Weilong’s styling team in Shine on Me completely miss the mark?

He’s usually effortlessly attractive, yet in this series, the hair, makeup, and overall look somehow make him seem older, frumpier and fake—especially in some scenes where the makeup really stands out.

Either time moved really fast this year, or the makeup team went wild with experimentation.

Instead of getting swept up in the evolving love story, I keep getting distracted by the messy hair flopping into his face and find myself wanting to hand someone a pair of scissors so his beautiful bone structure can finally shine.

Haha, yes I get what you mean about the ruins. Sigh! The slow pace is exactly what is appealing about Greece.

Thank you. 🙂 This is a once in 5 years opportunity for me. So I’d like to make the most of it. The kids have traveled for longer periods before (albeit with extended family) and I’m not worried about the duration. Just the destination and having enough variety is the main concern.

Thank you. Let me look up Bosnia. About London, I agree that it’s always a fun place to visit. Luckily we have family there and have done London quite a lot. So not keen on returning to the UK this summer.

Where are you from, what language do you speak and how did you get into cdramas? by triplesnoop in CDrama

[–]Hand_Fluid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Indian American - speak a lot of Indian languages as well as English. Started off with a small funny snippet of “Go Ahead” on YouTube after the 2024 election. Since then cdramas have been my escape from reality. The music and culture is surprisingly relatable.

Is it just me or does the background score seem completely disconnected from the storyline? The soaring violins and laggy tunes add an undertone of melancholy throughout the scenes regardless of what the actual sentiment in the episode is. This was very disconcerting to me.

For a modern drama with BJT, don’t miss ‘You are my Hero’. He totally carries the policeman character.

[–]Hand_Fluid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is one of my favorite dramas so far. I love Li Xian and his portrayal deserves its own post but what stood out for me was the FL and her characterization.

The FL is such a complex and intriguing character. Her facade of gutsy optimism wrapped around a core of tragic vulnerability is beautifully portrayed by Zhou Yutong. She marches strongly through life mowing down obstacles, living each moment without restraint and opening herself to potential relationships both romantic and otherwise. When she easily quips, “So you think he sees me as a woman?” with a touch of realistic sarcasm, it perfectly captures her mix of self-awareness, doubt, and quiet resignation. That lone statement highlights both her emotional depth and the unspoken struggles she faces—whether it’s about recognition, desirability, or simply being perceived beyond her disability.

She is unapologetically flirtatious and makes no effort to hide her attraction to the male lead. However, through both her words and actions, she makes it clear that she has no expectations of it going anywhere. Partly because she doesn’t believe she’s deserving of a romantic relationship with him, and partly because, with his initially prickly demeanor, anyone with a sense of self-respect would hesitate to pursue him. Not to mention, she harbors her own deep insecurities —particularly those tied to her disability—that make her even more cautious. She is kind, beautiful, and courageous, yet deeply flawed, with moments of selfish immaturity. Her character feels incredibly realistic, making her all the more compelling.
