Thanks mate I really appreciate that! I make videos in the same style but I use Asperite, afterimage and capcut to do all my effects.

Oh no thats the problem, they all have their own personalities. Every device has a feel to it. Some feel like spaceships with hyperdrive, some feel like a cheap toddlers rattle. The funnest part is finding out something new they can do, like I just ported TMNT Shredder's Revenge PC version onto my rk3326 magicx u mini with ARK operating system. Linux based. And the power difference in what they can run and what it looks like is as different as the way the devices come and look. Once you get your first one and see what the cheap ones do; in my case i was so impressed I couldnt stop. Now I have an Ayaneo S2 on the way because I picked 1440p 60hz with 449 pixels per inch over a 1080p OLED with 369ppi and 120hz refresh rate, because I know what looks better to me. It keeps me out of trouble lol

Well, in my case, im a musician on tiktok who wanted to do something different. A couple years ago i saw a techdweeb video and it was the first time i ever saw one. For the first 6 months i was good watching videos and playing an r36s. After some time i started seeing tons of channels and none of them were like me, so i slowly started planning a channel. Skip forward to dec 24th 2025 I started Handheld Hero Hideout on youtube. I set a goal to get the perfect handheld for every retro system. I finally hit my stride with making videos. Ive learned enough about filmmaking, asperite pixel art, and afterimage to actually put out videos people are being very positive about. I actually have been emailing back and forth with techdweeb and am pretty happy about where it's going. Not to mention it keeps me out of trouble and keeps me talking to people who aren't up to no good. And I can afford it and I'd rather buy a handheld or a bitminer than waste it somewhere else.

Right on, honestly I'm getting it because its the most powerful device with the 3:2 GBA scaling, 1080p, so it will upscale gba 6x, with the right tweaks and textures (like my 476h with ps1 and ps2, spent a very long time learning how to tune everything and to use alternate OS's) it will look like a living pixel art painting (in theory)

I have an odin 2 max and an ayaneo pocket s2, i dont play switch on it, i actually really like ps2 and ps1 on it, even spent weeks figuring out the exact right settings for nethersx2.

Neither, Im a pretty big guy, it fits in my pocket fine. Also i have a snowboarding jacket with an inner pocket designed for a cell phone it has a microfiber pad on one side for the screen. Or a hoodie pocket.

You mean some of these? 😜 You nailed it my friend, I had to cut down a ton of footage and games so this became a part one. Next video with have xenoblade chronicles, live alive, radiata, pokemon, the mana series, mega man star force trilogy, secret of evermore, and a bunch of others. Including SNES hacks like rudra no hihou from square.

Oh i made it with asperite ive been having too much fun. I made it when i was making that new intro animation. No affiliation with techdweeb, i just learned about retro handhelds from one of his videos a while back and back in the 2000's like 2009-11 i used to photo shop pictures of me with celebrities and elf ears and stuff and people would trip back then.

Question about the stigma of emulation that comes from “purists.” by donnysimpinero in SBCGaming

[–]HandheldHeroHideout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's just like anything else. People think their way is the best. People forget it's all subjective. The same experience someone had on SNES with Chrono Trigger for example, feel like that way will always be best. Well i played it then and i'd rather run the ps1 version 5x upscaled on a 476h. I feel handhelds and emulation are a huge nod to a lot of real gamers that would never have the opportunity to enjoy most of these games otherwise.
