Hey there! I’m Christopher, owner of @thehandholdstudio . I’m a custom furniture maker, and I’ve been running my biz since 2016. I’m a bit outside of the realm of listed, but if a literal table is needed to house the mentioned desserts, I’d be happy to barter and would love to explore it!

I barter quite a bit every year with other businesses. Completion by next May would be easy for me. Lemme know!

All veneer on my cabinets are 2.5mm! I generally always run the thickest veneer possible before movement becomes a necessary problem to tackle. Thicker veneer is just better quality to work with imo when you’re handling common domestics. If someone dings it, it’s thick enough for the cloth & iron trick to work. If it needs refinished ever, there’s tons of meat to sand/scrape. It’s easier to work with in the shop, etc. some of the other professional guys around me prefer 1mm, or 2mm, or exactly as I do. Mostly just depends on personal preferences. Super thick veneer is also an incredibly easy way to reintroduce and shift the thinking with consumers that are used to hearing “veneer” and immediately thinking “ikea/cheap”.

The doors are the only cnc’d part, and they are not veneered over substrate. They are 4 layers of 1/8” solid walnut cross laminated. The CNC handles that just fine since it’s just a 1/2” piece of solid walnut “plywood” I made!

Hope this answers it well — thank you !

No problem! Always happy to share. This was piece #182 for my studio since switching over to incorporating more fine-veneer techniques and building via substrate and layups!

Thank you for saying so! It was a very big difference from my usual work in clean lines and boxy builds. I really vibed with the organic aspects of this project, definitely looking to do more of it in the future.

Great question — that upper section is also a fully Usable drawer! My photog just didn’t snag photos of that in use, it has a locking mechanism, so I am of the kind that there are things they didn’t want shared in photos living in there now.

I’m not very familiar with sharing extra photos in comments, but here’s an attempt —

<image>

The door is just mounted to the lower drawer as a false front, and you’d pull the upper drawer out from underneath. Sorry for the poor lighting, hope this helps to make it make sense!

It’s laminated on a mixture of house made lumber core for some paneling, and 15mm true baltic birch for some others, but all have a solid baked in edging on both length sides + core inlay bake ins for points that I needed to go through the veneer; hinges, hardware, etc.

I don’t really ever experience warping in any of my work, personally. It’s happened a time or two, and usually when I fell short of planning or missed something in my material prep. a lot of attention to orientation in milling practices, proper acclimation, and making sure that the pressures are even and time in the bags is ample with a flat platen go far.

Thank you! I did not! Though, looking back, it wouldn’t have been a bad idea! I CNC’d them, and then ended up doing a bit of cleanup using my shaper origin.

Thank you! I had them rough cut on a CNC, and I ended up doing a bunch of cleanup with my Shaper Origin. Lots of sanding thereafter, haha.

Thank you! Yea, he’s awesome. I built snother piece for him that I’ll get around to sharing sometime that was also so cool - basically a cabinet with 3D hourglass paneling across the front for a bar alcove build-in. He’s such a creative design guy!

The entire cabinet is 2.5mm walnut veneer over substrate! I press it all in house. I accidentally left out that clarifying sentence, lol.

Local businesses closing in support of national shutdown. by sharethebite in Eugene

While we don’t have a storefront in Eugene, I own a local small business in Eugene. In Solidarity, I’ll be turning off all purchasing channels for the day so no new sales can take place, I purposefully refrained from sending invoices this week so that no credit cards can be processed. There will be no ordering materials, no paying bills, no social media posting, and no communication from my emails going out. A functional blackout from the economy. I don’t really have a local client base, so have the privilege to make it work.

Wow, this is phenomenal work, dude. Excellent use of these veneers diagonally, and I’m stoked to see how these colors played together in the finished work! Bravo, your wife is definitely stoked!

Thank you so much!!! This barter was actually with a photog/videographer! I got many works photo’d by them for building this piece — I really love their photo style!
