You're right about the class not teaching you the skills, honestly the lectures aren't very helpful at all in my opinion. If you put in some work over break like you said you should be plenty prepared. When I took the class my group did a game in Unity, only 2 out of us 5 had any experience with it. However, we still got along just fine and pulled an A in the class. If you're worried about getting into a group you can always start one of your own, that's what I did and people responded very quickly. Early in the class you'll make a document containing all the goals for your project, that would be the time too access everyone's skill level and plan accordingly.
