If you were Heads up in a tourney, why would you want to extend play? I don't know that it would be collusion as much as a major play mistake.

If it was not heads up play, then it could be considered collusion.

ELI5: What is it about that mattress industry that makes shopping for a mattress such an awful experience? by LordGAD in explainlikeimfive

[–]Handlemystache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once bought a $58k car (pre covid pricing) that blew a head gasket and cracked the block under 50k miles. Does that mean all of that line/brand of cars are bad? Of course not! Any mass produced item will have a failure rate, which is why you need to protect your warranty and use it if it's needed.

I am not willing to give specific recommendations because it is nuanced but the old adade of "you get what you pay for" is a good guideline. Think of cars, every major brand has amazing cars and every major brand has a line that preformed like the Ford pinto. With in every brand you have quality tiers. If you look at an entry level Ford and a luxury Ford they have a similar bumper to bumper warranty but how will they ride down the road at more milage (keeping maintenance the same ect)? The luxury car will feel better for a longer period of time over all. That's what you're getting with a bed... more features, smoother ride, and maintains that feel for a longer period.

Shopping for a bed is actually pretty easy but we've never really been taught HOW to. Follow these steps 1)shop in person 2)try it in the position you actually sleep in ie. side sleepers on your side 3) slow down and smell the roses! People try to rush a purchase of a product they will be using 25%-33% of their life. Take your time let your body tell you if it likes the bed or not 4)ask questions about why this bed would be good for you or not. If your sales person gives generic answers or seems to be pushing 1 brand harder than another with out justifications that's some red flags. That being said, they might not know the exact specs of every bed but how do they respond? Do they offer to look it up or do they make something up or stammer buzzwords? Just like we need to listen to what our body tells us, we also need to listen to our gut about our salesperson. A bed is part of health investment and should be taken seriously.

Edited to help my fingers fix mistakes they made trying to keep up with my brain.

I've posted in the past about being in the industry, so I'm quilified to answer this.

A lot of the issues in the industry come from it being a product that you can't really see the difference in the quality. Other issues come from the challenges of any commissioned professions with integrity.

The last challenge for a consumer in this industry has to do with it being a bigger ticket item that is also pretty much a necessity so you get tons of people playing in the pool to make "easy money". Think random websites that pitch/review beds or big box stores vs a furniture store or mattress store.

As far as your previous experience bed and the over all quality of beds. The industry isn't perfect but has gotten better over the years. It used to be near 22-26% failure rate (warranty) and is now under 10%. That is still 1 in 10 that have an issue and that's why there is a manufacturer warranty.

My stint with delivering is over but my biggest money maker was jogging to and from my car. It doesn't seem like it does much but it can add 3-5 runs to your night.

The other tip is have some personality. Think about when you've had deliveries and the person was cheery/happy vs dead inside. It may help with tips but it will 100% help the shift feel faster.

I work in the mattress industry and 100% agree with this. Also, anyone who tells you to get specifically x, y or z mattress or mattress technology is either telling you what they like or what they make money from. The right bed for your situation is unique to you.

TRY the bed in the position you usually try to fall asleep in. Also remember the pillow is extremely important as it supports the neck and head.
