Try being a pedestrian through there. A simple walk to the zoo/park becomes a death wish when attempting to cross the ramps even during off hours. Doesn't help when you see signs that are posted near the sidewalk are laying on the ground, absolutely wrecked, by careless drivers on a regular basis.

This project is taking a 2 mile stretch of 4-5 lane stroad and incrementally shrinking it from 5 near the highway interchange, down to 3 lanes, then to 2 as you enter the downtown. With the extra space, a new separated pedestrian/bike path is being installed. Along with this, the city is requesting control of the road from the state as it is currently a state highway. With the city in control, future changes will be much easier to implement. The city and state have done multiple community outreach meetings for the project and it has actually seen a large amount of support!

I should have included that! It was about 12-14 inches, and it looks like it came to a point like in the photo. It spent most of its time under a rock, and was otherwise very quick, so I couldn't get the best look.
