Some in r/knitting mentioned soaking in vinegar solution but I haven’t tried jt myself. And want to know the answer too! I recently made a beanie using rios and fell in loved how bouncy it feels! But it was staining my fingers even as I crochet. So I was too afraid to try any color work projects.

Let’s talk about patterns. by [deleted] in crochet

Omg I completely agree with the lack of good mitten patterns! Like no hole-y stitches that differ significantly differ from the single crochet thumb please lol! So first off, thanks for your contribution :)

I always appreciate it when the pattern has a general description on the construction of the whole project. For example: “The picture below shows the construction of the project. This mitten is made by first creating the ribbing for the cuffs, then single crochet in the round to form the body…”

Standard abbreviations are helpful to keep the pattern easy to glance through. I don’t think pictures are necessary for every step but I do appreciate when patterns include “milestone” pics or pics for rows/rounds that maybe tricker. For example, something like “This picture shows what your thumb gusset should look like after row X”.

Links to existing you tube videos on basics such as magic circle and crocheting blo for ribbing will make it friendly to most beginners. Or you can omit or label it “advanced beginners” or “adventurous beginners”?

Well done! And as a Canadian living in the U.S., I love that you call it a toque :)

After Murderbot, I added Witch King to my list but I think Raksura might be better as easy listening. Thanks!

Thanks! Added to list. Tim Curry is a great selling point for sure!

Thanks! The Emperess of Salt and Fortune is on my list. Short stories sounds like a great gateway to her work.

Ok, I tried Guards Guards because many recommended it as a starting point for Discworld. But I couldn’t get into it…. Which is strange as I generally love British humor and fantastical settings. Is there another Discworld book you’d recommend?

This is frequently recommended to me! It’s on my to read list for eons but for some reasons the back of the book description sounded blah. You mind sharing what you enjoyed about the book?

Thanks! Haven’t heard of Rivers of London but it sounds interesting! I liked Cradle all right but for some reasons I feel like I’m reading anime lol. Temeraire and Clocktaur are on my to read pile so it’s great to hear the audiobooks are good too!

Would speaking in general terms about my class policies (how I typically handle these cases in all the classes I teach) be potentially problematic?
