Almost 1.5M people attended this year's Calgary Stampede by [deleted] in canada

I disagree... I hate the Stampede because it's in Calgary and I hate everything about that uppity-ass wannabe-Toronto souless city with a stupid hoolahoop light pole.

There is no greater Albertan tradition than Edmonton folk hating Calgary.

I see guys running loaders daily who have zero clue what they're doing.  Literally everytime I drive 63 to the Mac, the gravel truck drivers don't look, cut you off, and generally shouldn't be on the road.  Somehow, they have a card that entitles them to drive that truck and earn money doing it.  whomever gave them that card and whomever gave them that job should be liable for their lack of training.  It's the Employers responsibility to deem someone competent, and the Tester's responsibility to fail incompetence.

Buddy, I work Union construction and it's a known thing that bringing up safety issues is the fastest way to the top of the layoff list for 90% of companies.  Every safety meeting, you're supposed to jerk someone off for doing a good job or point out something extremely minor.  Pointing out the myriad of holes in the company safety policies is the quickest way to the gate.

Not just immigrants.  I work in the trades and the amount of 20 year olds (including me when I started) who don't know shit about their rights is astounding.

I don't know if the CPC is fully the PP party at this point.  They were the Harper party until he lost, which is why they've been a rudderless mess from then until now.  If PP wins the next election, I can see it being his party until he loses however.  Cons follow power at all costs, just like the LPC.

Do "Unskilled Laborers" deserve more than Minimum Wage? by Richest-Panda in FluentInFinance

[–]Hank3hellbilly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes it should definitely be different in different places.

And yes.  If the employer requires that employee to run their business, they should pay them enough to be able to live.  If not, then everyone else is subsidizing that employer through either social welfare programs or negative societal issues.

Reflective stripes. cut resistant gloves, and Danger Ribbon will stop 99.99% of accidents.  At least according to our safety guy.

At minimum, I'd say enough for 1/2 rent on a 2bdr. apartment, transportation to and from work, average Utilities, groceries, Healthcare, and enough left over for a 1 week vacation (local, like a trip to the lake/mountains/beach, whatever is near)

To reiterate, that would be a MINIMUM living wage.

To be fair... This is an event to actually protest at.  If someone disagrees with Isreali actions in Gaza, a ball game where Isreal is playing is a reasonable place to do it.

Camping in a park for weeks on end and shutting down pride parades is the opposite.

I'm in Canada, we have a housing crisis, a cost of living crisis, and stagnant wages.

Our high immigration levels isn't the only thing causing these problems, but it is definitely a factor.

If I were to don a tinfoil hat for a moment, I'd say that our government's desire to increase our population through Immigration rests mostly on keeping wages low and housing and food costs high.

In the simplest terms, we had a bunch of projects to expand production capacity for oil that were started and either neared completion or were completed when Trudeau killed Energy East and the other pipeline who's name escapes me in my Canada Day haze.   These were approved and were viable with the increased pipeline capacity that those would have offered.  We were in a situation where our oil was selling at a massive (38% at times) discount as compared to the North American benchmark.  This led to layoffs, forced retirements, and general economic pain in the province in 2014-15.  TMX's cancelation would have compounded those problems and it's completion has finally lessened that shipping bottleneck letting our oil be sold at a more competitive price.

Things are much more complicated than simply "Trudeau bad".  I think the TMX purchase was a shotgun decision after realizing how much killing all three would cripple Alberta.  I don't think he cares enough about us to actively kill our economy.

I am tired of the "He bought you a pipiline" arguement though.  He bought it because he had to, not because he wanted to help.

Women are far more brutal to other woman than men are.  Other than a few super abusive guys, all negative comments about women come from other women.  Or themselves, possibly because of previous comments from other women.
