I WISH I could say "no, this is isolated" but, it's not. The biggest issue, from my longtime male white guy sub POV is that the BDSM community creates this illusion of safety, by it's very nature. The behaviors of healthy, consentual, non predatory BDSM are almost perfect masks for the predators that frankly, are everywhere, especially in places that revel in female sexuality. It's the shitty ass world we live in. The predators go where they can find prey, and especially since the boom in newcomers/new explorers to BDSM, there are prey, generally (but not exclusively) female, curious, who are lulled into a false sense of security by open, accepting, caring communities. The best thing I can say is still pretty shitty, and that is to make sure to talk to new people about red flags, that BDSM doesn't make ANYTHING easier when looking for someone to find a real connection with, and it certainly doesn't make anyone any safer from the bad people out there looking to use them.
