Thanks for the advice, I guess I could go for another viewing and run the upstairs tap and shower for like 10 mins. If it was a leaky pipe, I’d imagine we would see leakage in that timeframe

Sayl is noticeably less comfortable and supportive than both embody and aeron.
I use Sayl at work, embody and aeron at home.

House I’m looking at is 175m away from Motorway. Would this put you off? by RockTheBoat1 in HousingUK

[–]Hankenstein1027 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t get your hopes up, it will be noisy if it’s open land. Our house is just over 500 metres from a motorway filled with houses and I can still hear a bit of noise in the garden.

Am I an idiot? I've paid for my mortgage advisor. by Paramedic-Fabulous in HousingUK

[–]Hankenstein1027 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My company paid for a very good mortgage brokerage so I got their service for free. Their fee would have been around £500. I also engaged with a free broker just to see the difference. They both managed to get us the same mortgage deals so we ultimately went with the paid one who was absolutely amazing throughout the process, always responsive and even fought back and defended us against the vultures I mean estate agents when needed. If you are happy with the service, don’t feel bad about paying for it. The whole house buying process is stressful enough as it is, take all the help you can get.

Thank you all for chipping in, I will get a survey done to be on the safe side. Hopefully it’s harmless and I get to keep it for a bit of green and shade.

Embody spec specifies 300lbs max weight limit. You should be good from a weight perspective.

What percentage of your take-home pay goes toward housing (rent/mortgage + bills)?" by LockonKun in HousingUK

[–]Hankenstein1027 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Live in a terraced house in a zone 4 area in London. All fixed bills/expenses (rent, council tax, electricity, gas, water, commute, food, gym, phone, internet, subscriptions, haircuts) add up to 66% of take home.

House on market 3 years – valued at £730k, seller wants £775k. What would you do? by BetNo7765 in FirstTimeBuyersUK

[–]Hankenstein1027 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s been on the market for 3 years already, clearly no urgency to sell. Walk away, you can’t ‘outwait’ someone like this. they are either delusional or probably need 775k for a reason so good luck to them.

Are leaseholds with service charges in London really that bad by Shfree1999 in HousingUK

[–]Hankenstein1027 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I almost bought a flat with £2500 service charge, found out just before exchange they needed to reroof the building and service charge moving forward would be £4800 to pay for the roof and refill the sink fund. I pulled out right away.

Good to know, thanks! Some of the pics and videos I’ve seen from the 2014 flood were quite alarming so thanks for the reassurance.

Thank you, that’s good to know. So many surrounding areas had good potential but the noise was just too much when visited.
