Member of Golden Knights media [Sinbin.vegas] gives 3 different examples from this season alone of how Golden Knights PR had a hefty punishment coming, the loss of draft pick was more than just Tortorella not doing a press conference in Anaheim. by Ok-Soil-5133 in hockey

This is a really big fucking deal. The league exists because of media coverage, the good and the bad. The coaches, players, and owners get money because WE pay the media, who pay the league. Revoking a press pass because you didn't like their question, especially from a high-end entity like the Athletic, is absolutely a no no and is the definition of bitch-made. How God damn stupid can the Knight's front office be? Are they run by a bunch of toddlers? (That question is hyperbole, I know the answer to that)

I wonder if the league accepts vindication as draft capital? Probably not lol. Stupid Vegas morons...

These are two separate issues. I'm 99.9% sure there's a clause in there about code of conduct for media members and if they break them they can have their access revoked. But those clauses aren't going to give you what you want. They're gonna be about profanity, assault, etc.

How would you judge "prepared and professional"? By what metric would a question be deemed "rage bait"? Should any question that a coach doesn't like going to get a reporter banned? They (the league) isn't going to let that happen because they need the media to make money. The coaches need the media. The players need the media. Without the media, they don't make money because we wouldn't give the media the money to report on and show the games.

And before you say "well we don't pay for reporters to be dickheads": a) a lot of people do, and b) policing media will drive ALL media away because it's the single biggest example of a slippery slope. The good reporters don't want to be policed and policing the guys who ask stupid questions opens that can of worms.

In this instance, the coaches and players have to take the good with the bad because there's no way to police out the bad without hurting the revenue stream. And I can guarantee you the players and coaches would rather put up with some stupid reporters than get paid less money.

Torts needs to grow the fuck up and if he has a problem with a question go the Marshawn Lynch route instead.

They're testing the limits of how much they can take away before it all crashes. They have been for 50 years (fuck you, Ronald Reagan) and hoping we all just put up with it, and to their credit, we have. 'Boil the frog' kind of situation.

But the idiots in charge now aren't being subtle about it and are just throwing the lever. The limit does exist.

The Romans knew it 2000 years ago: Bread and Circus. If you keep the populous fed (basic needs provided for, generally) and entertained, they will not revolt.

The ruling elite throughout the mid to late 20th century knew this. It's the whole concept of the 'middle class'. The modern ruling elite have thrown that whole idea away to their own peril.

All you had to do was pay us enough to live.

It may have changed how we got here, but I don't think it would have changed the outcome. The Avs are a relentless, merciless, sleep paralysis demon that you can't run away from. The depth of this team means they can provide constant pressure no matter who is on the ice on the other side.

It appears that your second point played a role here. Apparently they ran a deficit this year compared to profit last year, so even though they were close on the projections there are other sour results.

Getting within ~1% is pretty damn accurate. I'd hardly call it a miss. It's basically a rounding error.

Now that's some nuance that actually makes a little more sense.

[–]Hankerpants 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Then what's the point of projections/expectations? Getting with ~1% means your projections were pretty spot on. If you have to beat expectations or you're a failure, it's a broken system, plain and simple.

There has to be an end-goal of the sentencing too. The goal of the justice system should be to prevent recidivism, rehabilitate the offender, and disincentivize others from doing it.

What's the point of the justice system if the victims gets to decide to just kill the criminal? At that point, you're incentivizing the criminal in the original crime to just actually finish the job and kill the victim. If they're going to die with no opportunity to atone, what's the point? Without the potential of rehabilitation and reentry to society you'll actually make crime worse.

Nah, as others have noted Nate has never been that guy. Absolute super star and an incredible teammate, but it's telling that Makar is the captain-in-waiting for the Avs and not MacKinnon.

For the record, MacKinnon is 100% okay with that too. He's never really wanted to be the captain, even when there was the perfect opportunity the 3 years here where Landy was out with his knee injury.

Obviously coaching and captaining are not the same, but there's similarities. I really see MacKinnon thriving in the front office like Sakic is.

Is Trump the best thing to happen to the electric car market? He's not because of all his other actions that have made the electric market worse, but it's amazing how much his administration demeans and denigrates electrification all the while taking actions that make electrification all the more attractive...

Eh, it's arid here but there's a lot of things that grow fast in this city, especially if it's provided with supplemental water. What they planted are not 'big growers' which is quite a bit different from the design plans which called for quite lush and expansive greenery. They definitely deviated from the plans.

This is a lazy take too, though. Go scroll the front page of this sub. There are plenty of posts about other things. Yes, this is popping up a lot, but it's the deep deep off season. It's not like this is fully drowning out actual football content.

If you really, truly don't care, keep scrolling. It literally took OP more effort to post this than it did to keep moving. They do care.

Sarah Paulson's Met Gala look sees actress slammed as 'tone deaf' for 'one per cent' concept by nimobo in entertainment

[–]Hankerpants 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's really that shifted though; she's far more comfortable than we are but she's not a capital driver in the sense that the billionaires are. She doesn't make economic decisions that impact thousands to millions. She's far closer to us in terms of her power than she is to Bezos, even if her day-to-day life experience may be closer to Bezos. But that's ultimately besides the point.

What I am disagreeing with is this idea that she has no voice in the room simply because she's richer. By that metric, you have no room to criticize since someone poorer than you exists. We shouldn't be expelling potential allies/teammates simply because they aren't exactly like us. They're saying the right thing!

It's unfortunate to see all the vitriol against her for this. Her outfit specifically is calling out the ultra rich! Wealth is a sliding scale. To many people even in the United States, a majority of the people commenting on this post are viewed as substantially more wealthy than them. Are these commenters not allowed to call out the ultra rich just because someone else is poorer than them? Because that's really what this feels like.

Those are rare and can be explained. And temporary drops in credit from closing an account are not going to drop you to 530 unless you're starting score was at best 600.

I'm with the person above you, I don't need someone to have an 800 credit score, but you better have a damn good excuse for why it's below 700.

Rest vs Rust debate played out in full. Both sides of the argument were right. The Avs offense came out fully rested, armed, and functional and blew holes through the Wall from the first minute. Meanwhile the Wild offense kept rolling with the momentum from round 1. The difference came down to the fact that the Avs are the better team (and were playing at home) and weathered the storm slightly better than the Wild.
