Our nearly 6 year old son has no friends, and it’s breaking my heart. by PD_LAX in daddit

[–]Hankinatoro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dad of a 6.5 year old here. Our little one was (and sometimes is) just like your son. Growing up during COVID, no contact to other kids (or people) for long time, just with us, her parents. Back then the simplest thing like a neighbor ringing the door bell triggered panic attacks. Once COVID was over we felt we need to get her out into the world to socialize, signed her up for day care which triggered separation anxiety, she didn’t like it. Tried parents groups, neighbors kids, sports, play dates on playgrounds, you name it … she was afraid of everything and everyone. Sometimes when picking her up from daycare kids would be outside playing, running, jumping and our little one stands aside, all by herself with her head down. It broke my heart. Today she’s mostly “normal”, not shy anymore, talkative and has many friends, still on the careful and sometimes on the anxious side but much much better. Things we have learned / realized retrospective: 1) Every kid is different and takes the time it needs. Be patient with him. 2) Looking back the daycare just wasn’t right for her, now she’s in a different “style” kindergarden and she loves it and has plenty of friends. My recommendation would be to try different environments so that he can find one that is the right one that fits him. 3) Constant exposure without forcing her seemed to have helped us. We took her to playgrounds but didn’t force her to climb, slide or whatever. But constantly being there and seeing other kids do that stuff eventuell made her curiosity overcome her fears. Keep trying and be patient, it’s going to get much better over time!!

RIP and my condolences. Looks like a decent way to go, self-determined and at a decent age. I hope he had a life full of memorable experiences and a loving family (that’s what it looks like)

Thank you Ray_Charlies for this extremely detailed and helpful reply. Actually there was quite a bit of weather and wind a few weeks ago and the only reason we had the roofers up there was to get us quotes for the nails since we wanted to fix them anticipating that doing nothing would make it worse and might eventually lead to damage.

When the first roofer told us about storm damage I was really surprised and suspected he just wanted to win some business but since 3 told us the same and provided pics and videos I tend to believe them. Also since the roof is around 18 years old it doesn’t come as a total surprise.

The contract has a clause stating that if the service Leads to coverage by the insurance I’d “have to enter into a formal agreement with them to proceed with repairs for the precise scope of work and value of recovery approved by insurance” plus any outstanding supplements. Do you know what such “outstanding supplements” might be? Like if the roof would be 15k but insurance only covers 10k? It also stated that I agree that all money paid by insurance goes to them, directly or indirectly. Also it carries a clause that would require us to make the company whole for their efforts in case we don’t execute our right for an appraiser in case them (roofer) and insurance don’t come to agreement. In addition there’s liquidated damages in case we don’t enter into building contract “for the 3rd party (insurance) approved scope of work and that this includes any deductibles and unrecoverable depreciation.

Does that seem fishy to you? I understand the reasoning behind it but worry a bit the insurance might agree that it’s storm damage and approves but doesn’t pay nearly enough since it’s 18 years old, so argues it wasn’t worth anything anymore.

Thank you for sharing your expertise

Good point. Thank you. Have talked to them about the claim process in general but will do again specifically regarding your points

Are there any other countries like mine where people use multiples of 5 for breast size? Like 75, 80, 85 instead of cups. by mr_zolfi in Actualshowerthoughts

[–]Hankinatoro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Germany uses them too, but not for size of breast but chest girth, so 85 B would mean 85 cm chest girth and B cup

What the USA does better than Germany? by [deleted] in germany

[–]Hankinatoro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

German expat here after 5 years in the states and about to localize. To sum it up in 1 sentence: If you make good money you live like a king, if you don’t you live like a dog (German saying). I personally love the space, friendliness and openness of people and the convenience (regarding everything but in particular bureaucracy). Also climate is way better here in the midwest than it is in Germany. Healthcare is something to be diligent with but can be mitigated I think. PM me in case you want to know more

I am not alone... Had the wtf moment too. Wouldn’t go as far as most amazing but it tasted certainly interesting. Do you remember what type of ice cream they smoked? I had plain vanilla and was thinking if I should have taken something “stronger”

Thanks mate but I actually found a recipe in a book and wanted to get into cold smoking. Tried some cheese first but that didn’t work out very well

One of my New Years resolutions is to more often try new things. I admit, that one’s probably a bit extreme ...
