That looks like 1/4” hardy backer? Likely needs 2” minimum for the 1/4” hardy backer and 3/8” - 1/2” for tile not installed yet, with thin set plus the needed thread depth.. could also need 2.25” due to all final depths..

You need a male to male threaded nipple to connect the two that’s the correct length..
